Why Chelsea Should Sign Marco Reus At Any Price

Marco ReusOkay, so maybe I overreacted a little in the title. That doesn’t take away from his achievements and value. The German attacker signed for Bor. Dortmund at the beginning on the season – and possibly had the best first season a footballer could have.
He is mostly played by Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp just behind Polish striker Robert Lewandowski. He is often used to link with the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Lewandowski with his quick one-twos and speedy runs.
Since he is technically not a striker nor is he a playmaker, it is very, very difficult to compare him with statistics to other candidates. He has scored 19 goals in his first season in all club competitions.
Reus won the prestigious ‘German Player of the Year’ award for Borussia Monchengladbach last season yet still decided to join the reigning champions of the time Dortmund.

“I’ve made the decision to take the next step forward in the coming season. I’d like to play for a club who can challenge for the league title and guarantee me Champions League football. I see this chance in Dortmund.”

This has been confirmed true as Dortmund made it all the way to the final of the Champions League and were unlucky to lose out in the final to local rivals Bayern Munich.
I think Chelsea should sign him at any price – really. He’s a tremendous footballer who will fit in with any squad, especially ours. A definite must-buy. His link-up play in combination with a deadly poacher’s instinct makes him a very versatile and useful player.
At Chelsea last season, we played a 4231 formation. We had a double-pivot and three attacking midfielders of which two of them often drifted into the wing to play more as wide midfielder. This is how I am going to label the positions:

PIVOT:

DM (Limited midfielder role mostly played by John Obi Mikel this season.),
CM (Box-to-box midfielder who also acted as a deep-lying playmaker, mostly played by Ramires/Lampard).

ATTACKING MIDFIELDERS:

LAM: (Left sided attacking midfielder/wide midfielder role mostly filled by Eden Hazard)
CAM: (No. 10 position if you must, main playmaker, mostly played by Juan Mata)
RAM: (Right sided attacking midfielder/wide midfielder role taken up mostly be Oscar/Victor Moses)
I firmly believe, for Chelsea, Reus can play in any 4 attacking positions (LAM, RAM, CAM, ST) with ease. The style of football he plays will bring many aesthetic benefits to our game and I really hope new manager Jose Mourinho makes a serious attempt to sign him this summer.

  1. This is the Best signing-suggestion u have ever made.
Marco Reus is the best thing that can ever happen to the Chelsea attack force.

  2. well i think chelsea are going to sign schurrle..they play quite similarly though reus is of course better but schurrle is cheaper and can be as good as reus with proper management

    • he was signed for 14,5m euros with several add ons which could be up to 17m euros. that’s why Im wondering why Schurrle is rated at 20-25m if Reus is

  3. Don’t forget schurlle is coming and he might broke de bruyne’s path.

  4. Yes – Andre Schurrle is coming, IMO he’ll slot into Victor Moses’ position as a rotation player and Moses being used as a squad player. I think we can win the Champions’ League with Reus. You can’t say that for very many other players.

    • so you are telling me that moses is better than schurrle? :O :O :O ..obviously you don’t know the abilities of schurrle..schurrle is the reason why leverkusen has beaten bayern munich this season..schurrle and kiessling are the best players of leverkusen

I WANT MARCO REUS…….in CHELSEA….100% perfect for blues

  15. I usually don’t cmnemot on my colleagues’ reviews. (After all we’re all entitled to our own opinions, right?) But sometimes they make mistakes & I decide you should know. In this case, Ben Sachs writes in the READER: observations of barrio life are generally illuminating, focusing on the sort of neighborhood landmarks that are usually overlooked. The filmmakers even stage a few scenes in Uruguay’s oldest standing synagogue for a superfluous subplot that nonetheless conveys a strong sense of place. He’s wrong. The synagogue scenes are part of an integral subplot. Don Elias still has deep ties to his old neighborhood, so if you don’t get that, Ben, then I’m afraid you’ve missed the point
