From chelseafc.com, here are Mourinho’s comments from his match back in charge (at Chelsea) since 2007:
‘I am pleased and it was difficult to do well because of the amount of training and because the opposition played in a very defensive way which I am not criticising,’ Mourinho said.
‘They played for a result and knew we had more talent. Our keeper didn’t make one save and we were always in control, and we thought when they were winning they would open a little more but they played for this kind of result.
‘So it was a good experience because they were very organised with five at the back and only one in attack. Defensively we were very strong, we moved the ball quite well but didn’t create many chances. We are not sharp, we have a lot to improve, but it was okay.’
On Frank Lampard who didn’t play and Brazilian right-back Wallace who did for the first half…
‘Lampard was a precaution. Players have to be intelligent and not risk it if they feel any little thing. In competition you have to risk sometimes but in pre-season, injuries are the worst that can happen.
‘He was feeling a little pain in the Achilles so between him and the doctor, and I also pushed for that decision, we decided that Lampard would not play, and for Ramires it is not a drama to play 90 minutes because he is an above natural runner. In two days’ time I think Lampard can train.
‘Wallace is a very good player. He is mature for his age – comfortable on the ball and he likes to attack. He is not staying with us because we have Ivanovic and Azpilicueta for the same position, and also because he is not from an EU country and we need to get him a visa and it is maybe too early for the committee, so he will go on loan for one season in Europe but I think you can see the kid has talent and is another good investment by the club.’
On goalscorer Lukaku…
‘A goal is a goal but it is not significant from a penalty, but it is important that he and Demba Ba work hard and work for the team. It was difficult for them against three central defenders always in a deep line, but it is good for his confidence in his first match back at Chelsea to score the winning goal.’
On the other players…
‘Everybody did his job in a positive way and I was analysing players we don’t know so well because they haven’t been playing for Chelsea – Wallace, Van Ginkel, De Bruyne, Chalobah, and it was positive, even the boy Bertrand Traore, he is not a Chelsea player, he is a trialist, a 17-year-old kid and he had some movement and some touch on the ball, so you can imagine he is a good kid for the youth team.
‘No injuries, everybody did their job, so it was good and it was fantastic to come so far from London and see so many people in love with the club.’
