Important Points from Jose’s press-conference before the Super Cup Clash

Jose Presser

Chelsea will face Bayern on the 30th of August, for the first time after that fine night in Munich on the 19th of May, 2012. A lot has changed since; Bayern won the Champions League last season, hired Pep as the new manager. But most importantly Jose is back as the Chelsea manager and many see this game as the revival of the rivalry between Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola.
Chelsea the Europa League winners will face Bayern Munich, the UCL winners at the Eden Stadium in Prague, Czech Republic.
Jose having faced Bayern as the Real Madrid manager, having lost on Penalties in the Semi Final knows that only the best efforts will insure that Chelsea win the cup tomorrow.
Jose knows why Bayern have been so successful:
Jose was quick to point to the Bayern strength as a side which is playing at its peak.

“Their biggest strength is the team, the team is a finished product, with players who are in the best moment of their careers. I’m not exactly sure but it’s a team with an average age of roughly 27 or 28.
“All of them, year after year, play in the best competitions, not just with their club but also their national teams. They are coming from a season where they showed they are a perfect team, because to win the treble, only perfect teams can do it. They are a fantastic team.”
“It’s always difficult, I’ve played against Bayern many times, sometimes in recent years, other times long ago. The first time was in 2005 with Chelsea, it’s always difficult, it doesn’t matter about the players, system or formations.”

Jose on the Super Cup:
Jose talked about his young side with a chance to win a trophy and the test his side faced vs United.

“It’s a match that gives a trophy, if any one of us say we don’t want to win it that’s not true, but at the same time I have this profile of team, many young players. United was a first chance for them to feel it and cope with a new situation.”
“I didn’t speak with them yet, after the United game I let them rest, and yesterday I couldn’t be with them because I had to go to Willian’s work permit hearing which will allow him to play in the Premier League.”
“This morning we travelled, but now it’s time to start preparing for the game and speak about things. I want to listen to what they want to tell me about last year’s Super Cup and draw a conclusion.”

Luiz is fit to play and Juan Mata is going nowhere:
Jose has revealed that David Luiz is fit to play but hasn’t yet decided whether the Brazilian will start or not.

“Juan Mata is fit, David let’s see, I believe he is fit, but it’s one thing to be fit and another is to be ready to play.”

Meanwhile Jose was quick to deny any rumours regarding Juan Mata’s future at Chelsea.

“Everything is clear between me and the player, we have no problem. I think he’s a very important player for us; he wants to stay, I want him to stay, the club want him to stay, so there is no story. We have a lot of options in the positions behind the striker but these are also players who can play wide.”

Jose on the Pep Guardiola Rivalry:
Jose was reminded of his clashes with the former Barcelona manager having won only three times in fifteen attempts against Pep. To which he responded:

“Your statistics are wrong as a start,Very wrong. Very wrong. But I don’t want to discuss that because it’s not important. I’ll just say it’s wrong. Go there and see what happened with Inter in the Champions League semi-final. The league records in Spain. The Copa del Rey in Spain. The Super Cup in Spain. You are very, very wrong. You are wrong. But it’s not important. It’s not me against him, it’s club against club. That’s not important.”

Jose clearly wanted to keep the focus of the conference on the two clubs taking part and not on the past rivalry, understandably he said Pointing to the badge on his white training top:

“It’s white but it’s Chelsea. If you want questions about Chelsea I’m here until four o’clock. If you want questions about Real Madrid and Barcelona, I’m not here.”

I like the response, it’s club against club not managers against managers.
