Player Ratings: Tottenham Hotspurs 1-1 Chelsea

image
John Terry scores a free header in the box to equalise.

Tottenham Hotspurs
Hugo Lloris: 7.0
Made some excellent saves, most notably the ones from Torres and Schürrle. Helpless in the avoiding John Terry score. Very good display overall.
Kyle Walker: 6.0
Kept Hazard quite, partly because he wasn’t on his level. Pacy as always,  pressed forward whenever he could but couldn’t provide much.
Michael Dawson: 5.5
The one to blame for John Terry goal. Lost the Chelsea skipper completely that cost Tottenham two points.
Jan Vertonghen: 7.0
Solid display from Vertonghen. Lucky not to be sent off and played a significant role in sending off Fernando Torres. Made some decent interceptions throughout the match.
Kyle Naughton: 5.5
Invisible for the most part. Luckily for him, Chelsea’ s right side didn’t cause much of a trouble.
Paulinho: 7.0
Full of energy, excellent passing and technique. He was unlucky as he had a shot of his, hit the near post in the first half.
Moussa Dembele: 7.5
Brilliant display from Dembele. Strong both physically and aerially. His defending was so good and provided platform for the attack to build on.
Christian Eriksen: 6.5
Started brilliantly. It was his beautiful turn and short cross that allowed Roberto Soldado to provide assist for the Spurs goal. Looked a big threat initially but faded considerably as the game went on.
Gylfi Sigurdsson: 6.5
Scored the goal with a very fine finish and came very close adding a second one. Was lesser of a threat in the second half.
Andros Townsend: 6.5
Showed great pace and trickery. His passing in the final third were much better but couldn’t make a major impact on the game.
Roberto Soldado: 5.5
Assisted the goal but apart from that he was anonymous in the. His link up play was decent at times but not the one we have seen at Valencia, so far.
Substitutes
Lewis Holtby:  6.0
Worked hard,  helped the team in pressing and his passing was impressive. But Spurs were on the back foot in the second half, so he couldn’t do much offensively.
Nacer Chadli: 5.5
Lost possession far too often.  Poor display.
Jermaine Defoe: 5.5
Wasted a chance that came through a beautiful ball in by Dembele. Else, not much to say.
Chelsea
Petr Cech:  6.0
Not at fault for the goal conceded. Was lucky the shot from Paulinho hit the post. Other than that, he was confident in the air and throughout the game.
Branislav Ivanovic:  6.5
Solid defensively. Made a match saving last ditch tackle in front of goal, in the first half to deny Paulinho. Strong in the aerial duals as usual. Best Chelsea defender, defensively.
John Terry:  7.0
Scored the equaliser. May be he could have done better to stop Sigurdsson from scoring but blaming on him would be harsh. Otherwise,  a very solid display from the skipper.
David Luiz:  6.0
Dealt with Soldado well and was good in the air. But he was at the fault for the Spurs goal as he is lacking that bit of positional awareness.
Ashley Cole:  6.0
Found it hard against Townsend’s pace and trickery but dealt with it safely. Improved in the second half.
John Obi Mikel:  6.0
Decent performance in the 45 minutes. Comparatively, one of the better Chelsea players in the first half. Took off for Mata in the start of second half as Jose went for the all attack mode.
Frank Lampard:  5.5
Tried but couldn’t make an impact.
Oscar:  5.5
Worst performance from him so far this season. Shifted to the left side in the second half.
Eden Hazard:  6.0
Still not the usual Hazard.  Maybe because of the absence of Mata. Improved a bit in the second half.
Ramires:  6.5
Full of energy as always. Terrible start as he played on the RW. Improved significantly in the second half as he retained his CM spot.
Fernando Torres:  7.5
Brilliant performance but so unlucky to be sent off. Very lively in the second half with his pace and dribbling.  Provided some good opportunities for both himself and other. Contrary to the usual, he was on the opposite to the ‘victim’ side in Mike Dean’s eyes.
Substitutes
Juan Mata:  8.0
Man of the match. Completely changed the game and was pressing the opposition often than ever before. Provided assist for the Terry goal and scored a goal prior to that only to be ruled out as an offside, rightly so.
Andre Schürrle:  6.0
Had a brilliant chance to score but Lloris did well to ensure he didn’t.  Else, he spent most time pressing the opposition.
Cesar Azpilicueta:  N/A
Came on for few minutes as Torres got sent off.
Man of the match: Juan Mata. Completely changed the game in the second half and earned his place in the starting XI.
Flop of the match: Michael Dawson. Lost John Terry completey in a Juan Mata set piece who went on to score and cost Tottenham two points.

  1. Referee and Match Officials -1000
Torres’ red card was ridiculous. Once again poor refereeing ruins everything.

a fukin joke, spurs played alot better than what u are rating them. walker, lloris and eriksen especially

    • really? only 35 minutes of the first half they showed up. Rest of the time it was all about chelsea. Yes Eriksen should be 7.0 but everything else spot on. Please dont give anymore credit. They have already been given enough.

    • u got to watch the matches carefully.. Spurs were passing good in first half and created couple of chances but we were dominating on the 2nd half until Mike f*kd himself with red card!

  3. Walker did fuck all. Ratings are spot on except for Soldado maybe.

    Where is –
    What we learnt???

  5. Good job better luk next tym

  6. I enjoyed the match was really entertaining. I think we are seeing a different Torres after Mourinho because of the effect of E too. This is because Torres is making sure that all his hands is on deck so that he can be retained in the starting spot again. I guess this is why he is actually playing well. So far he has played excellent in this campaign. I hope he retains his position as well. Obviously, in a team like Chelsea we admonish competition all the time. This is just healthy for us i presume. Yesterdays match i saw some glimpses of old Torres.

  7. i think hazard needs to be rested in our next match n mata retains his position
