As Chelsea continues to face the tragedy of our strikers, failing to put the ball in the back of the net this season, it has caused major headaches to the Fans and to Jose Mourinho.
So far this season, none of Chelsea’s recognized strikers – Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o or Demba Ba – have found the back of the net in a Premier League fixture.
This has caused a lot of criticism from the media, considering the fact that, fellow Blues forward Romelu Lukaku has already bagged four while on-loan at Everton.
And while there are puzzled frowns from Chelsea supporters every time the powerful Belgian slams home another goal for another team in blue, Mourinho’s solution might not be on Merseyside, but right under his nose.
And That has to be, Andre Schurrle.
The Former Bayern Leverkusen star was in spectacular form for Germany on Tuesday Night, scoring a hat-trick against Sweden in the World Cup Qualifiers and also ensured Germany took all maximum three point in a 3-0 win over Republic of Ireland on Friday with a beautiful strike. And has been heaped with praises from The National team Coach Joachim Low and ex- international, Oliver Kahn.
Schurrle has, to date, been given one starting chance to prove his pedigree as a forward; away at Manchester United when Mourinho set out an organised and conservative line-up. Chances were always going to be few and far between, and so it proved as the game finished goalless.
But the former Mainz 05 star has demonstrated time and again both in the Bundesliga and for Germany that he possesses the attributes to become an accomplished Premier League forward.
He is by no means, among the likes of Didier Drogba or a twinkle-toed Lionel Messi, Schurrle’s skills are reminiscent of Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski – a typical modern day forward if you will agree with me.
Schurrle’s strength lies in his movement along the opposition back-line, intelligence and his ability to attack space.
He can score with both feet. Not only can he score but his composure and the timing of his shot is up there with the best forwards in world football.
Yes, his hat-trick in Sweden did come from his position on the left-wing – the place Mourinho believes is his strongest – but with a plethora of talent to call upon in the attacking midfield department, Schurrle has all the tools to be the front-man Chelsea are so desperately in need of.
It is by no means an alien position for Schurrle, who scored a vast amount of goals for Leverkusen from a central forward or supporting forward position.
Most importantly, he is on form and finding the back of the net. And Mourinho knows more than anyone he needs a striker who can get the goals, when needed .

This same lad who has missed countless 1on1 scoring chances? Well i believe he has the pace and inteligience to get into scoring areas but his finishing has let him down like the rest stikers, seeing his in form now with Germany i think Jose should try that experiment now rather than later.

he is better where he is since his final touch is poor.we hav no problem with striker bt our midfield.i want to doubt even if lukaku wld b with he wld nt hav scored any goals.how many chances has Torres wasted?i cant even rem-.yes 4 Ba and Etoo they misd sme gd chances bt that isnt enough 2 brad them the misfiring strikers.our problem is the misfeeding midfield.
Thanks Wambua, I’ve always opined that our wingers are selfish hence the goal drought our strikers are experiencing..guys like lampard, hazard n oscar would rather shoot instead of passing even when they’re not in the right position to score. Be Dawski or Falcoa, they’ll never survive at cfc with these goal craving wingers around…
They are not selfish! They score goals when they got chance of playing clean shots, how can you say that….? Any winger or midfielder loose faith in the strikers when there performance is like our strikers so they take an extra responsibility to score.
Schurrle is proofing to be a good strike but his still young and prove important attacking talent.

That’s true, i have once raised this, the MFs are the ones killing our strikers, they prefer to score goal than for the team to win. They should please change their habit, we can’t continue like this and expect we win the league. For a team to win the league their striker (1) must score atleast 25 goal and this is not happening even when we have only one striker.
