Match Report: Chelsea FC 2-1 Man City; big win inspired by Torres!!

cfc vs man city

In what is arguably the best and perfect game Fernando Torres has played for Chelsea in his time at the bridge, he assisted 1 and scored the winner in the 90th minute to wrap up a precious 3 points for the Blues. The first goal came in the form of Andre Schurrle after a brilliant solo run in the wide area and an assist for the opener by Torres. Chelsea then, conceded a goal by Aguero in the 2nd half but, kept on pressing and attacking the opposition till the end. And that paid off at the end as a defensive blunder between Nastasic and Hart produced an opportunity on the spoon for Torres, who tapped the ball into the net for a winner and sent the Stamford Bridge faithful into erupt with massive joy and pleasure.

cfc vs man city scoreline

Starting line-ups:
Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Cech; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry (c), Cole; Ramires, Lampard (Mikel 65); Hazard (Eto’o 83), Oscar, Schurrle (Willian 65); Torres.
Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Hart; Zabaleta, Demichelis, Nastasic, Clichy; Garcia (Kolarov 79), Fernandinho; Nasri (Navas 69), Yaya Toure (c), Silva; Aguero (Negredo 86).
1st half summary-
The game started with Chelsea exchanging much possession of the ball and creating danger in the opposition half as we missed a couple of chances in the first 5 minutes of the game itself. Fernando Torres and Gary Cahill squandered chances two chances. But, when City looked to counter, the defense was always resilient as only Aguero was creating some danger around the box when he is on the ball.
Then, the goal we all were waiting for arrived in the 33rd minute when Torres made a run through Clichy into the right post and assisted Schurrle to tap home the effort from close range. The German did well to lose his marker and get at the end of Torres’ cross. Man City looked to attack and equalize but, all efforts to turn the game around didn’t succeed in the first half for them as the Blues pressed well and our midfield held Yaya Toure and co. at the bay.
2nd half summary-
A much different and dangerous Man City came out of the dressing room and started to blaze on all fronts against the Chelsea defense. Aguero capitalized on Cahill’s positioning and got at the end of a through ball from Nasri to send a cracker to the high net of Petr Cech’s goal. It’s an exact type of punishment the Argentine dishes out when defenders are left clueless of his smart runs and fell to track him.
That sent a massive fire under Chelsea and led the Blues into starting attacks yet again. Fernando Torres, a clear MotM for this game was playing to his maximum as was players like Oscar and hazard despite Schurrle being frozen out on the other end because of tired legs maybe. Mourinho then made some impact substitutes by bringing on Willian for Schurrle and Mikel for the cautioned Lampard. Later on Eto’o came on for Eden Hazard.
Chelsea attacked, attacked and attacked till the end until on stoppage time when a long ball by Willian led to Nastasic to head the ball while Hart was coming out to clear it and Torres was there to give us the lead at 90th minute. Four minutes added and nothing came from Man City to score an equalizer late on as Chelsea held the visitor’s out from scoring. The whistle was blown and a joy erupted at the Stamford bridge as this is an early decider of the title winner come in May.

TORRES WINNER VS MAN CITY

Fernando Torres, arguably as I said, with the best game he has played for Chelsea won us the 3 points in this crucial game. Jose Mourinho is fully happy and satisfied with his team ahead of the London derby against Arsenal to come on Tuesday in Capital One cup. I don’t think Oscar had a poor game. Not brilliant by his standards, but a solid 7/10 for me. This was a difficult game and Oscar played ok
