Match Report: Derby County 0-2 Chelsea

imageChelsea progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup after an good 2-0 victory over Derby. Goals from John Obi Mikel and Oscar sealed the victory for Mourinho’s men. The blues will now face Stoke City.

Chelsea didn’t start the game in the brat fashion. David Luiz was under pressure and played a back pass to Schwarzer who fluffed his lines. Shortly after that the blues started to look comfortable on the ball.

The blues continued in their comfortable style, dominating the affairs however the game was lacking any real clear chances.

The first time either goalkeeper felt worried about a shot was shortly after the half-an-hour mark. Ramires picked up the ball a fair distance away from goal, around 30 yards and unleashed a cracking strike sailed agonizingly wide.

A poor clearance from Grant put Derby in trouble, Eustace came across and ‘took one for the team’ in order to deny Oscar, he received a yellow card for his action.

After patient Chelsea play, Oscar sparked into life cutting inside and striking a fierce shot which fizzed wide of his goal.

Hard work from Eustace midfield saw him dispossess Ramires and fire a strike which was straight at Derby.

0-0 HT

Oscar was set free down the left flank but his cross intended fie Eto’o was cleared by Keane.

As Hazard replaced Essien on the 54th minute, John Obi Mikel was handed a massive privilege on his 300th appearance. Sir Obi Mikel was handed the captain’s armband.

Jose also decided to introduce Torres to the came replacing the disappointed Samuel Eto’o. Shortly after the sub, Willian curled a stunning cross which was brilliantly met by the head of Mikel, yes Mikel scored his second goal of the season. 1-0 Chelsea

It wasn’t long until Chelsea doubled their advantage. Hazard and Oscar interchanged nicely, the Brazillian’s shot from outside of the box was central however Grant was unable to push the ball out. 2-0

Fernando Torres was in a fantastic position to score, he was one on one with Grant and instead of shooting he opted to take the ball around the goalie. Grant manged to kick the ball with his stretched leg and the danger was cleared.

A minute later the Spaniard was through again this time on the right, this time the best option was to pass to the rushing Ramires however he shot which was saved.

Then Ramires had a chance to seal the victory, he attempted to shoot from 25 years out which took a wicked deflection which hit the top of the bar.

With five minutes left Derby almost scored, teenager Bennett received the ball at the edge of the penalty box, and the ball went just wide. For a moment Schwarzer thought the ball was going to hit the back of his net.

    • I’m one of those who feel our strikers aren’t getting enough balls. What’s your argument? Torres actually had alot to do when he got released in the same position twice. Think about that.

    • Torres dribbled amazingly, the keeper got the last touch with his foot, it was really unlucky for him. He played fantastically when he got the ball though. Overall I do think mata is better at feeding strikers/scorers killer passes. Just look at the Torres Hatrick vs qpr for chelsea, and you’ll see what i mean. I have to Admit though, this was quite a scrappy game and oscar and willian seemed a bit off today, but good all around effort, also why is Mourinho using ramires as a winger, so many attacking midfielders beign put on the bench but he uses a diving CM.

Bob did u call oscar diving playmaker when he scored d other day? I bet u, if rami score today u ll call him dat. U called today match a scrappy game? Just ask those players, they ll tell u is one hell of a match. Torres was unlucky. I say it here several tyms dat he s our best striker. Trust me, he ll score more important goals for us. Oscar and willian gave their all. Debby county defended wit their soul. They re a big team in d championship and they re doing fine.wit hazard and oscar , i can guaranty myself a goal even is my striker is not scoring. We re improvin game by game. We should be happy we cfc fans. Am happy and am certain mata is not goin anywhere cos i can see him thumb up some fans when they were singing “we want u to stay” everybody want him in cfc. Good squad wit qualities can win things together.

      • Why would u call Ramires a diver? He seldom does that bcos he’s very strong on the ball. I wouldn’t know if u can give us here two three occasions where he dives

  6. This chelsea team is starting to gel now. Good work from Jose! And congrats to mikel on his 300th appearance. That goal was a plus for him, well deserved deputy captain of the day

  7. Oscar, William and hazard. Good job. William is a complete: speed, dribble, quick pass and physical.

    All hail king Mikel

  9. Big ups to captain mikel on his 300th game!

  10. who says chelsea is not up to something this season??? mou is really working hard on the players and i belief by the time he finished chelsea will dominate epl and euro for a very long time.not forgetting sir mikel new form, a very good team player,i am too sure he will be very great under mou. keep flying high mikel.

  11. Thumps up for Cfc, Jose, Mikel, Oscar, Willian, Cahill. Im sure of more thrillz to unwind.

  12. Hazard, Oscar & William are best trios. Mata should accept bench role. Strikers continue missing chance. LB needs to strengthen.

  13. 3 things stand out: willian, cahill and mikel. Willian seems almost too good to be true. I’m afraid whether this can last. Hee runs everywhere!!! He never stops running. The boy is a bargain for 30m. Cahill is very underrated. Maybe bcos we got him for a low price considering how much chelsea spends on other players or maybe cos he is from bolton. But the boy is good. Gives his all everytime he puts on the blue shirt. Mikel had a solid game. Capped it with a goal. Was a wonderful performance. Only one disappointment in the match though. I would have loved to see more of lewis baker. Been following him from the youth team and he’s quite good. Also ruben loftus cheek

  14. United we stand divided we fall chelsea 4 life
