Match Report: Manchester City 2-0 Chelsea – FA Cup 5th Round

Manchester City managed to beat Chelsea for the first time this season after knocking Mourinho’s men out of the FA Cup. Goals from City striker Stefan Jovetic and the returning Samir Nasri ensure that the Manchester side will progress to the quarter finals of the FA Cup.

Without a doubt Manchester City started as the better side and began to dominate. Yaya Toure decided to strike a powerful 20-yard shot which troubled Petr Cech in the Chelsea goal. The power of the shot saw the ball squirm out of the hands of Cech and fell kindly into the path of Jovetic, the Montenegro International looked destined to score however his chipped effort clipped the top of the crossbar. Certainly Chelsea were very fortunate that the scoreboard remained level.

Minutes later City were ahead via a first time strike from Jovetic. David Silva played a perfectly crafted ball into Edin Dzeko, The Bosnian was aware of the run of Jovetic who hit a first time shot into the far corner. 1-0 City

Edin Dzeko almost doubled City’s advantage.Once again City looked threatening whilst attacking and the ball found Dzeko who was in a marvellous position. He attempted to curl the ball into the top left corner.

The blue of Chelsea were unable to craft any real chance with the notable creative plate such as Hazard and Willian were unable to have a real impact on the game. Moments before the half-time whistle City almost scored for the second time and yet again it was Edin Dzeko who had the chance. James Milner drove down the right-hand channel before delivering a fierce cross across the face of the goal. Only a touch was required to score however Dzeko was unable to connect with the ball.

1-0 HT

Jose Mourinho decided to introduce January signing Mohammed Salah to the affair, replacing g Chelsea’s only recognised striker Samuel Eto’o.

Manchester City continued the second half in similar fashion to the first, and City were dominating the share of possession. Clearly this meant that Salah didn’t have an real opportunity to impact the game, therefore Mourinho decided to make a second replacement. Fernando Torres replaced Ramires.

The next goal obviously possessed vital importance which could change the course of the game. It was Pellegrini’s side who managed to score the all-important goal. A swift flowing City move saw Silva breaking Chelsea’s defensive line and setting up Nasri for a simple finish. Initially the goal appeared to be fine, however replays showed that Silva was in an offside position when he received the ball.

With the last throw if his dice the “Special One” decided to replace Willian with Oscar in an attempt to salvage something from the game.

Chelsea were almost victim of a third goal but their blushes was saved thanks to the flag of assistant referee. The ball fell nicely to Lescott who managed to squeeze the ball I to the back of the net, however the out of favour City defender was in an offside position.

The game finished 2-0 City.

On a brighter note I’d like to share that one-year ago I first wrote for CFC360. Without a doubt I’ve had a fantastic time writing, and I sincerely hope that my content is always pleasurable to read. I’d like to thank Shaurya (the head of CFC360) and the whole team for consistently delivering a great range of Chelsea-related articles to a high standard. The tremendous feelings one experiences when writing is unique and I hope to experience many more in the near and perhaps distant future. Chelsea FC 360 is truly a wonderful CFC, and once again I would like to state my thank you to all involved. KTBFFH, Carefree!

  1. I am not bothered about this defeat.jose has said he is mounting a massive campaign for the title next season.
What I saw from this match was a chelsea team jaded from exhaustion from playing about 5games in the last 2weeks,last one coming last tuesday with city tie postponed hence they. Came out fresh today. This same chelsea team will also play on tuesday or wednesday this coming week!!!.terry injured, cahill half fit, says a lot.

With zuoma in,costa looking to come in next season, mourinho needs to wrap up fernando,Koke, khedira and Moreno/filipe catch in the summer. Also,I think we should go for greizman/balotelli to partner costa.we need only 2 new strikers +eto’o and lukaku next season.if we get the above players, then we will win the league convincingly next term.

  2. fatigue dealt with our players.once again rami couldnt complet simple pas.willian is afraid 2 shoot & shoots way off d mark wen he makes an attempt.mikel was slow, but later showd some flair when rami left d pitch.de whole team needs rest.but why is jose benchn schurle.i believ we wil bounc back against everton.cfc 4 lifefatigue dealt with our players.once again rami couldnt complet simple pas.willian is afraid 2 shoot & shoots way off d mark wen he makes an attempt.mikel was slow, but later showd some flair when rami left d pitch.de whole team needs rest.but why is jose benchn schurle.i believ we wil bounc back against everton.cfc 4 lifefatigue dealt with our players.once again rami couldnt complet simple pas.willian is afraid 2 shoot & shoots way off d mark wen he makes an attempt.mikel was slow, but later showd some flair when rami left d pitch.de whole team needs rest.but why is jose benchn schurle.i believ we wil bounc back against everton.cfc 4 lifefatigue dealt with our players.once again rami couldnt complet simple pas.willian is afraid 2 shoot & shoots way off d mark wen he makes an attempt.mikel was slow, but later showd some flair when rami left d pitch.de whole team needs rest.but why is jose benchn schurle.i believ we wil bounc back against everton.cfc 4 life.

    what happens to rami??

  4. FLENZY-CHELSEA

What did mikel do or what does he ever do. Came on against westbrom and boom… Today i knew it because mikel is so good at disguise, his teammates fail to know what mikels role is just look at Matic today who had no idea what mikel was doing…. It leads to confusion on roles because you may have to play mikels role plus your own. When a player can play a game without any contribution like mikel often does then you realise the team was 10 men already

  5. it was not rely gud 9it 4 chalsea

  6. This was an all round poor performance. Hazard was poor. Did not impose himsellf in d game at all. Willian was worse. Ramires was d worst player on d pitch. I think rami has been on d decline since. Why does mou seem to prefer salah over schurrle. No one can blame mou for this. But mikel is not good enough. Cech was appalling. D only ppl dat seemed interested were azpi, matic and cahill. Let’s pick ourselves against everton. Pls mou, DROP WILLIAN @ least against everton. Ktbffh

  7. Martin, Norway.

The entire team were awful. Ramires, Mikel and Luiz especially. On a serious note Luiz is a liability at the back, i think we should buy a better defender in the summer so that we can move Luiz forward in the middle. What i learnt is bad day and we missed Terry immensely.

I was responding to @miles the other time dat mikel/matic pivot ll not work well not bcos they re not good players but cos they cant run very fast. We were caught on the counter many times. I hope they dont start together again. What the fuck happened to ramires when we needed him most? Cant make a good simple pass. He is annoying. Must luiz make so much touches before he can make a pass? Terry dont do that. I hate it. He wasted our time by making 4, 5 touches before a pass. U dont do that at the back. I expect nothing less. Its difficult to beat them thrice. Kudos to the boys.

  9. Cfc_obsessed.

I think mou picked salah cos of his pace but didnt work and dats y he introduce torres immidiately. Salah though very new, needs to wake up. This is epl. Mikel played the way he used to play, nothing strange but no need for 2 defensive minded players honestly. I had play lamps or move annoying ramires back.

Kudos…? Beyond a couple of players (Cahill, Azpi), hardly deserved. Rami was shameful as he was against WBA. To those crying fatigue – PLEASE – so is Man City. We have sufficient depth to maintain consistency. Hazard, has been getting too much compliments hence, struggling yo maintain. He had zero impact against WBA as well. Chelsea need to play with conviction, ie strive to annihilate instead of playing the pathetic game of win by 1. Mou really needs to shut up, and get his boys to grow some balls, or at least buy it at a minimum. Talk crap once you have won the league, stop talking until you develop consistency.

  11. the problem is the players where so weak before the match and man city players where fresh because chelsea where facing only derby games they play two tmes in the in the week and man city play only one match in the week because there match was pospone and chelsea face Two away games

    • MIKEL! MIKEL!! MIKEL!!! Why always you? Whenever Chelsea doesn’t perform well, you’re to blame! Why not you guys go to London and shoot his arse? He will continue to play for ChelseaFC now and if we change coach, the new coach will put him in his squad in future. So, do yourselves a favour and GET HIM OUT if you can that is.

  12. @Kes, I tot you should have directed that candid comments to the Flenzy guy above who obviously has now developed clear bigotry for the poor lad. we understand it is mere hate.

  13. FLENZY-CHELSEA

Bcos wen he didnt play in midfield the two games against this same team we looked solid nd won it outright now he plays our midfield is disorganized, u people dnt jax wanna accept that fact, buh watch for more games u will see.

  14. FLENZY-CHELSEA

I love that Gabby guy,he wa saying the reak truth, u are jax blind to see dat, I hate people who dnt lyk the truth.

  15. If science povres some belief of Buddhism wrong, then Buddhism will have to change. In my view, science and Buddhism share a search for the truth and for understanding reality. By learning from science about aspects of reality where its understanding may be more advanced, I believe that Buddhism enriches its own worldview. So Dennis, my hope is that the leadership in these two belief systems may be in the process of transforming them into workable humanistic traditions which will enhance rather than tear down the status of knowledge and free inquiry. You should know by now that when an atheist uses words like hope it is a colloquialism for reasoned extrapolation based on current information, rather than in the sense of faith, hope, and charity.
