Chelsea’s Brazilian defender David Luiz has given an exclusive interview for Pepsi commercial and he spoke about many topics which include preferred position he would like to play in, about the Blues’ title bid in the EPL and most importantly the FIFA World Cup in his home land come this summer. The Flamboyant Chelsea star answered all the questions and said Jose Mourinho’s men aren’t nervous or under any pressure despite being top of the league with Arsenal and Man City lurking behind.
Let’s look at some topics that were discussed and read the quotes of David Luiz who is one of the main performers of the Special one’s squad this season specially in big games such as Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd in which we have got important and crucial points in the title race…
On the pressure facing Mourinho’s side in our bid to win the Premier league:
David Luiz kept it simple and on point when facing questions that had to do with the title race. Some might argue that the World Cup in his homeland is more on his mind but, here are his thoughts on the title race in which the Blues currently lead ahead of Arsenal and Man City respectively.
‘Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. We will keep working hard with the humility we have. You never know.’
That seems the main essence of football that you sometimes lose or win, but Luiz said for such important title race that he would along with his team mates would die for to win. And of course, it would be his first premier league trophy with Chelsea since he arrived in England in 2011.
On his preferred position and possibility of playing as a striker:
The Brazilian shared his story of how he infamously started as a midfielder or a no. 10 behind the striker while he was playing for a youth team in Brazil. And since, his transition to his CB role, Luiz has become one of the top players in his position and is very reliable for a manager to field him in CDM role as well. Here is his thoughts on his favored role if there is any…
“I want to play football and I want to help the team. It doesn’t matter if I play midfield, if I play in defence, if I play as a striker. As a striker? “I hope to one day,” he laughs. “The opportunity would be nice.” -Luiz in his interview, quote provided by the Mirror
Jose Mourinho has said that Luiz is one of the best center backs in the world but, the Brazilian has played more games this season for the Blues in the midfield role since he was given chance in that spot last season for the first time. The position his national team manager would like to put him in for Brazil in the world cup is yet to be seen even though him and captain Thiago Silva have created an incredible chemistry that lead to his nation winning the Confederation cup last summer in Brazil.
Finally, on the World Cup 2014 that set to be played this summer in his home land Brazil:
Luiz admitted this time that their real pressure facing their nation if they don’t win the World Cup on home soil for the 2nd time of asking since they lost at Maracana in the infamous final against Uruguay back in the 70s.
‘We need to win – there is a big pressure on us, For Brazilian people we have been waiting for this World Cup for more than 60 years. Everyone in Brazil loves football and wants to see us win the title.’
‘Germany have won one and lost one at home. Italy have won one and lost one at home. Brazil have lost just once – so now is the time to win. We have the best opportunity because we are at home.
And Luiz concluded the main topics with that answer by admitting their is a huge pressure on the players and whole country to lift the world cup on home soil for the first for Brazil, a nation holding the record of amounts of world cup victories.
