Month Review: February

Jose and February have one thing in common; Whenver Jose has managed to finish 1st at the end of february, his team has gone on to win the league. Too early to say considering how tight this season’ premier league has been but here is the month review for February.

Manchester City vs Chelsea
3 February
Etihad Stadium

Our big away match of 2014 saw us take on high flying Manchester City, who haven’t lost at home in the premier league. The match started with them having most of the possesion and were attacking most but the breakthrough came in the 30th minute when a screamer from Ivanovic saw his shot go all the way and beat Hart to give the lead. We came very close to increasing the lead as we hit the crossbar 3 times, Man city were not in the best form in the 2nd half as their strikers missed a key of opportunities. The match  ended with a 1-0 win and we went on level with points with City, only behind goal difference.

Chelsea vs Newcastle United

Stamford Bridge

Our 2nd match of February saw us take on Newcastle United, who defeated us back on November, to inflict Jose’s 2nd loss of the season. The match started out in normal fashion with both sides having same possesion. The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when a play, started by Hazard, who passes to Ivanovic and Ivanovic passed to him again, to finish off the play and score the first goal of the match. The second goal came in less than 6 minutes, starting from a corner, cleared by Luiz, Hazard made the run and played an amazing one two pass with Eto’o to score an unbelievable goal. Second half began, a penalty won by Eto’o, Hazard took it and scored without even looking at the ball, to score his first hat trick for Chelsea. Salah also made his debut and came close to scoring but the shot was blocked. The match ended 3-0 victory, taking us to the top of the league.

West Bromwich Albion vs Chelsea
11 February
The Hawthorns

Our 2nd match of the same week saw us take on WBA away. They came close to ending Jose’s home record earlier this season but we managed a draw. The match started out with us missing opportunities and the first goal came in the 45th minute for us, when a corner, headed by Luiz, came to the path of Ivanovic, who managed to hit a volley past Foster. In the second half, it seemed Jose switched to more defensive option as WBA started attacking more and they hit the equalizer at the 87th minute through a Anichebe header goal. The match ended 1-1 and we missed the chance to go clear at top on 4 points.

Manchester City vs Chelsea
15 February
Etihad Stadium

Our 2nd meeting with City this month, this time in the FA Cup. The match did not go well as expected as City claimed the lead at the 16th minute, as Jovetic scored past Cech. The players looked tired, Jose didn’t make much changes to the starting XI. In the 2nd half, it was all over when Nasri scored City’s second goal to give his team a 2-0 win, thus knocking us out of the Fa Cup.

Chelsea vs Everton
22 February
Stamford Bridge

1189453-24868709-640-360Our last match at home this month before we returned to Champions league action, saw us take on Everton, who inflicted our 1st loss of the season back in August. The match started out well, us having the most possesion but Everton had fair share of opportunities and they came close to scoring but couldn’t. 2nd half, it was the same as 1st half, no goals yet. It finally came in the 90th minute, when a free kick by Lampard, went pass Howard, to give us the lead. It looked as if Terry got the last touch but the goal has been given to Lampard.

Galataysaray vs Chelsea
26 February
Turk Telecom Arena

BhblI1tCUAA56CVOur last match of February saw us return to champions league action, against Galataysaray. Drogba was playing against us for the first time since his departure in 2012 after helping Chelsea to win the Champions league trophy. The match started well, with us taking the lead in the 8th minute from a Torres goal. The fans kept booing us in order to raise the pressure and chelsea kept defending the attack from Gala. Torres had a chance to double the lead but was unlucky. 2nd half began, Gala scored an equalizer from a Chedjou goal after Terry failed to clear the ball. The match ended 1-1 with us going into the 2nd leg with an away goal advantage, as we managed to tame Drogba.

Best moment of the month for you? Feedback is appreciated.
