Thiago Silva has been one of the best ever free signings, not just for Chelsea, or in the premier league, but of all time across the big leagues, how often is it that a 37 year old CB is producing world class performances every single week at a huge club? Top that with leadership and immense ball playing abilities and you have the one and only Thiago Silva who is loved by everyone at Chelsea.
Recently in an interview he stated that he has huge ambitions to replicate the famous Paulo Maldini of AC Milan by playing until 40-41 :
Thiago Silva on his playing future :
“ I hope I can do what Maldini did at Milan, play until I’m 40 or 41 years old, that’s my plan, I’ve prepared for that “
The key word in this interview for me is preparation, it’s incredible that despite all doubts, Thiago has kept his body in peak condition at Chelsea, managing multiple times to start again in Thomas Tuchel’s back line with only 2-3 days rest.
Okay, you can argue that a back 3/5 that Tuchel often deploys could “ Protect “ Silva, however, Tuchel has deployed a back 4 multiple times this season particularly against Spurs at Stamford Bridge in the premier league where Chelsea ran out 2-0 winners with Silva producing a solid display and scoring the second goal of the game.
It remains to be seen if Thiago decides to stay at Chelsea and keep the romance going between manager, club and fans, or if he decides to go back to Brazil in the near future to finish off his career where he started, what is certain tho, is Thiago’s presence will be sorely missed on and off the pitch if he does leave, which is remarkable for a man who only joined Chelsea under Frank Lampard.
