Mason Mount has openly defended team mate Jorginho after a late winner from North Macedonia meant that the Chelsea man will not be going to the world cup this November, despite winning the EUROS Just last year.
In an interview with Telegraph Sport after England’s 2-1 Victory over Switzerland, Mount defended Jorginho and opened up on the uncertain future at Chelsea with the future unknown with life after Roman Abramovich as the sale process rumbles on into April. Currently, 4 suitors have been shortlisted by the bank Raine who are conducting the sale on behalf of Abramovich, those are :
1 ) Todd Boehly’s consortium which consists of Hansjorg Wyss and Jonathan Goldstein.
2) Sir Martin Broughton consortium which consists of American backers Josh Harris and David Blitzer, Vivek Ranadive and other un named investors.
3 ) The Ricketts Family accompanied by Kenneth Griffin
4) Stephen Pagliuca, owner of Boston Celtics.
While the sale process is happening, perhaps some might have thought that Chelsea would suffer results wise, would the team be able to continue to focus on the pitch or would things go down on a slippery slope? Well, the answer is No, Thomas Tuchel’s men have remained undefeated since sanctions on long time owner Roman Abramovich were set out, and let’s not forget about the women’s team too, the ladies have also remain undefeated under Emma Hayes with their last result a 9-0 win over Leicester, yes, 9-0. Anyway, Mason Mount in this interview just proves how much of a tight knit group Thomas Tuchel’s men are, they look after and support one another even in the most difficult moments and on the pitch it has been impressive as always.
When Mount was questioned about Jorginho’s world cup heartbreak, the midfielder responded :
“I always mention that ‘Jorgy’ is the joker in the group,” But when it comes to big games against us, there is nothing but respect between us all “
“It’s all about respect. If you look at how far both teams (England and Italy) had to come to get that opportunity in the final, it was a massive amount of work “
“I actually sent him a little message and said, ‘keep your head up, you’ve had an amazing season and hopefully we can go on this season to win some more things together’.”

Mount went onto reveal what was really going on in his mind on the takeover process, revealing that the players do not really know where the process is going :
“I’ve been at the club since I was six years old and something like this has not happened before so it can be a concern ”
“At the beginning, and even now, we don’t really know where it’s going and what’s happening the next day ”
“So it’s difficult, but we focus on our football and what we can do is try and win as many games as we can and obviously I’m away with England so that stuff is kind of parked and I’m focusing on England duty and what I can do while I’m away this week.
” And then, when I go back to Chelsea next week, then I’m sure we will be informed about what’s going on because I haven’t heard anything recently ”
“I missed the last (England) camp so I was eager to get back in and see all the boys and get back to training. Because when you’re away from it you definitely do miss it, because of how close we are as a team. It’s so good to be back ”
” So, yeah, that break, it probably does help being away and then hopefully by the time we do go back some things are sorted out or we have some answers about what’s going on in the future. But we’ll see. “
“It can sometimes be hard to focus on football when a lot of things are going on around you “
“But I feel like it maybe has made it bit easier, that maybe there’s a game coming up so we can’t look at what’s going on away from the football pitch, we focus on the game and we focus on the three points and try to win.
“Hopefully that can continue. You don’t know what’s going on from day to day, so to focus on football and what we can have an effect on is what we do.”

Chelsea’s players, staff and manager have all been impressive since the sanctions not only affected Roman Abramovich but the club in general with Chelsea Chiefs working day to day with the government to try and get them to ease up on the current license deployed over the club, it is only recently been confirmed that Chelsea will allowed to sell Champions league tickets again, with an important clash against Real Madrid on the horizon next week.
However, restrictions on selling tickets for premier league matches remain in place, with fans who hold season tickets the only ones allowed to attend Stamford Bridge, it is estimated that there are around 28,000 season ticket holders but of course the full capacity sits at around 42,500, which is something the new owners whoever they may be will be tasked with increasing and re developing the ground which could cost well over 1 Billion Pounds.
