Chelsea are leading the race alongside PSG and Manchester United for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez according to David Ornstein.
It seems to be a bit of a weird link at the moment considering Armando Broja’s impressive season at Southampton and the fact that Chelsea still have £100m man Romelu Lukaku who Tuchel admitted he still believes in, but we have to take any report seriously when it comes from David.
Nunez is 22 years old and regarded as one of the best upcoming young strikers in Europe, so far this season, Nunez has bagged an incredible 24 goals in 24 games in the LIGA NOS with 5 assists, and in Europe, Nunez has scored 5 goals in 9 champions league games including a goal against Liverpool last week.
Chelsea still cannot complete any transfers even in principal if they wanted to ahead of the summer, with sanctions still in play.
It remains to be seen if Chelsea do sign Nunez or if this interest is legit at all, but it seems to me that Chelsea are planning ahead of the Summer window, perhaps making the transition to new owners much easier.
