Player ratings: Chelsea battle through to defeat Leicester at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea battled through a resolute Leicester city to defeat them 1-0 thanks to a screamer from Marc Cucurella.

Let’s get into some player ratings..

Robert Sanchez – 6

A clean sheet probably warrants a decent rating, though he really had nothing to do throughout the game.

One very dodgy moment early on where he completely missed a Leicester cross, and luckily it didn’t go as it could’ve.

Wesley Fofana – 6

Fantastic to see him return today and I thought he had an overall pretty solid performance. 95% completion on his passes, and overall looked pretty comfortable being back in our defence.

Tosin Adarabioyo – 6

Pretty standard today, apart from the scary moment where he nearly scored a freakish own goal. Other than that, nothing much to say.

Levi Colwill – 6

Contributed to a clean sheet. Was incredibly dominant in the air today, and it was probably good for him to just have a quiet afternoon.

Marc Cucurella – 9

Our match winner, and best player today as he often has been this season. Defended really well throughout the game and his goal was absolutely fantastic.

In a game where we weren’t creating much, it needed someone to step up, and he did.

Moises Caicedo – 8

Superb again, won 10/11 ground duels, great in the passing area and most importantly avoided a yellow card, meaning he can play the game against Arsenal next weekend.

We couldn’t afford to not have him there.

Enzo Fernandez – 7

Decent today, fairly commanding in the midfield and heavily involved with just shy of 100 touches of the ball. Offered us a real creative outlet too.

Cole Palmer – 5

It seems he just can’t buy luck at the moment. His long run of scoring penalties in the Premier League ended with his first half effort saved by Leicester’s keeper, and it just sums his luck and performances up recently. Not ideal.

Christopher Nkunku – 4

Woeful today, looked disinterested in the game, offered absolutely nothing. The sooner we have Jackson back, the better.

Jadon Sancho – 6

Not too bad in the first half but felt he drifted in the second. Won the penalty in the first half as well but we all know how that ended up going. A step forward.

Pedro Neto – 7

Relentless workrate which is what the rating is mostly for. He didn’t stop running, chasing down and pressing up until the very end.

Fans appreciate that, even if he isn’t scoring, he’s having a positive effect.

Substitutes:

Tyrique George – N/A

Didn’t do enough to warrant a rating.

Trevoh Chalobah – N/A

Josh Acheampong – N/A

Enzo Maresca – 6

In spells, we did play well today. Ultimately it’s still a concern that we’re only beating a team like Leicester 1-0 with a goal from a defender. However, it’s a big step towards the top 4
