Player ratings: Chelsea get destroyed by Flamengo in second half after another Jackson red card

A 2nd half to forget… outfought, lacking in energy and clueless in both boxes. Chelsea stumble to their first Club World Cup defeat to Brazilian side Flamengo.

It leaves us needing a desperate win over African club ES Tunis to qualify for the last 16 but also could mean we could play Bayern Munich who look to top Group C…

Robert Sanchez- 3.5

A shaky first 30 mins with poor passing. A decent stop in second half save in the 60th minute, but then it all went downhill to the Sanchez we have seen for the majority of 24/25 …

Reece James- 3

Positionally caught out a couple of times down the flank and had to rely on cover. Did not look comfortable playing in midfield at all and looked sluggish, even in 50/50’s

Trevoh Chalobah- 3.5

Misread a few 50/50’s and had awful reading defensively for the 3 goals and kept the flamengo attackers onside. One to forget….

Levi Colwill- 4

Matched the intensity of the game when stepping up in the first half with a great clearance off the line just before half time. After half time he looked shattered

Marc Cucurella- 3

Caught out a few times trying to be aggressive and was exposed massively especially 2nd half down the flanks. Somewhat dealt with his opposing winger when attacked.

Enzo Fernandez- 2.5

Decent 2nd half header from a palmer free kick. Other than that, extremely quiet game and didnt really have any impact on the game

Moises Caicedo- 6

Few crunching tackles in midfield which is the norm with Caicedo, and was always positive trying to start attacks and support the wingers

Malo Gusto- 2

Decent first half but caught sleeping once the switch ball was played for the goal and was culpable for the involvement in 2 of the goals.
Allowed a lot of free headers and constantly switched off, another shocking game for him. He does really hate defending the back post…

Cole Palmer- 2.5

Genuinely was frozen out of the game and flamengo nullified his threat well. Wasnt allowed to create/get into half spaces, quiet game for our number 10

Pedro Neto- 5

2 in 2 for the chelsea winger which is a plus, Cool and composed finished in front of goal, great capitalisation from a defensive mistake and very tenacious hunting down lost balls. However, completely nullified 2nd half and didnt beat his man once and wasn’t linking play at all

Liam Delap- 4.5

Good run down the line and a shot on target to relieve some pressure from flamengo in the first 5 mins. Hold up and link up play with neto grew more the game progressed. Still finding his feet in Chelsea colours

Subs:

Nicolas Jackson- -1

Disgraceful, stupid and reckless challenge, cost chelsea with any chance of getting back into the game with only being on for 4 minutes. Not the first time he’s done this…

Romeo Lavia- N/A

Marc Guiu – N/A

Noni Madueke -N/A

Enzo Maresca- 2

Not proactive enough with making changes when the backs against the wall.

Starting 2 RB’s when theres a bunch of midfielders on the bench waiting to get minutes is not good enough… tactically outclassed unfortunately but our former back up LB in Filipe Luis, he’s got a lot of work to do for next Wednesday’s game

The main questions we all want to ask/know is… when will we see Santos? Why isn’t he getting any game time? Is Maresca seeing something we’re not?…

Food for thought ….
