Player ratings: Individual mistakes cost Chelsea again in 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich

A brutal return to the UCL for Chelsea as they falter to a 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich. It was really the Michael Olise show who stood out and outclassed us.

Good spells of play and not taking chances seems to become Chelsea’s Achilles heel, as well as individual mistakes.

A uninspiring second half performance has raised some cause for concern going into other big UCL games for this season and the game fixture overload could prove to be costly, but lets see how we respond to our first defeat of the season.

Sanchez: 8

Not much room for error for majority of the game. Distribution was again very good and claimed crosses very well. A very good save from Olise kept us in the game at the time.

Gusto: 6.5

A constant threat and outlet down the right hand side and felt like something was going to happen down that side. Unfortunately a costly error for the third goal with a heavy touch and poor pass back.

Chalobah: 6

Has to share some blame for Olises first goal by the poor marking across the box. Ground duels were solid but we know Trev is capable of so much more.

Tosin: 5.5

Looked quite slow on the ball and struggled to pin point mark Harry Kane who gave him a tough game throughout the game.

Reece: 6.5

Solid and strong down his side and nullified and outnumbered the Bayern midfield threat. Tried to help going forward too but there was only so much he could have done.

Caicedo: 7

Dominant as usual in the midfield and didn’t look weak against a physical Bayern midfield. A bit rash in his tackle on Kane for the penalty which ultimately cost us to concede.

Enzo: 6.5

Kept things ticking in the midfield and his short passing through the middle was impactful for us in the right way. Could’ve supported the attack more in phases where we were dominant.

Palmer: 7.5

Our star man turns up once again! Taking time off during the international break might have saved us. Looked extremely influential and effective down the right hand side and took his goal extremely well arguably on the biggest club stage.

Neto: 6.5

Consistently worked hard and tried to double up on Olise but going forward was slightly lacklustre as it was predictable what foot he was going to use to cross in or try a piece of trickery.

Pedro: 5.5

A few nice moments in the middle of the park but aerially didn’t win a lot of headers/duels. Could’ve done more with the ball at his feet where there was space.

Subs:

Garnacho: 3

Had a few good runs down the left but didn’t really create any chances.

Santos: 4

Quite unfortunate to not pick up an assist for the 2nd Palmer goal which was ruled out.

Estevao: N/A

Maresca: 4

No one can deny, his team selection was approved by most fans but what was frustrating the most was the lack of proactivity and bench support when the game started to sway away from us.
