A Counter View on Signing Rooney or Suarez

Image
The whole Chelsea family is out there busy trying to judge the positives of having either Wayne Rooney or Luis Suarez as the next marquee signing for our beloved Chelsea FC, so I thought let me take some time and come up with a counter view, what exactly would be the negatives if we sign either of them. And before any of you point out to the fact that it was me who had actually been going on and on how Rooney was supposed to be the last missing of our jigsaw puzzle, I’l admit I still want Wayne as our number one target, and if not him, Suarez it is. Both are phenomenal players with immense qualities and can easily spearhead us towards a trophy-rich season. But are there negatives? Is there a risk? Oh yes, here you go.
Wayne Rooney:
Image
1)      Attitude: Alex Ferguson is considered to be one of the best ever managers to grace the beautiful game (not that I liked him or anything, but that’s not important here), and he himself was at times annoyed by Rooney’s attitude towards the club. Wayne has already kept the Manchester Club at gun point, saying he will quit the club if they don’t increase his wages a couple of years back. That is not a good attitude by the wide vast range of my imagination. Luka Modric had also kept Tottenham at gun point claiming he wanted to leave the club, but it was not because of money matters, he just wanted to play somewhere at a higher level. This was not the case with Rooney. I don’t think Mou will dance to his tunes if he decides to play the same games with our boss, he will rather ask him to stay at home rather than cause headaches of such sort for the club.
2)      Controversy: Chelsea already has a number of controversial figures in the team, contributing to both on and off field problems for the club. John Terry and Ashley Cole has caused countless problems off pitch for the club and our legend Drogba is known for his once in a while on field moment of madness (I’m talking about the slap on Vidic in the Finals in 2008, and a few diving claims) However, we still love all of them because of their love and passion for the club. Rooney doesn’t fall in the latter category, as of yet. He has his share of controversy, both off and on the pitch (on – stamping on Carvalho, etc. , and off – sleeping with a hooker while his wife was pregnant) Do we really need more controversial figures within our club? Moreover, we don’t love Wayne yet, we may/may not like him, but there is no love, and so is the headache worth taking on?
3)      Quality: Okay, I admit Wayne is a class apart. He is an amazing player, but there has to be a reason for his limited success at Man Utd. Wayne Rooney has been second fiddle to first Ronaldo and now RvP at Old Trafford. Even the lowly Welbeck and Chicharito were preferred over him by Alex Ferguson at times. What is the problem exactly? Ferguson fields his team strictly based on merit, and not favors. So why is a player of Rooney’s quality kept on the bench whenever he wasn’t even injured? Something to think about actually.
4)      Money matters: Now let us turn our attention to the economic perspective. Wayne might cost us a lesser price tag compared to many other superstars in the market, but his wages are massive. He could earn about 200k to 250k per week, which would take the tally to 9.6m to 12m per year, add to that a 5 year contract, phewww, that’s a heck load of money frankly.
5)      Position: Wayne Rooney has one good reason to leave Old Trafford, and that is to play regularly, and to play in his favored striker position. But what exactly do we differ in that area than Man Utd this season? We already have an almost-back-to-form Torres, a Senegalese desperate to fit in the team in the form of Demba Ba, and a young prodigy who is raring to take on the PL with a storm in the form of Romelu Lukaku. If you see the second favored position for Rooney, that is, the attacking midfield, we already have our lovely Juan Mata, Kevin De Bruyne and Oscar competing for the spot. Left wing is again full with Hazard and Schurrle competing, only the right wing is a little off competition with only Moses at present competing with our other attackers for the spot. Wayne wouldn’t want to play as a right winger for us, would he?
Luis Suarez:
Image
1)      Controversy: When it comes to controversy, Luis Suarez could write a book on how to get into the media for all the wrong reasons, be it for diving, cheating, abusing, fighting, and most recently biting. He is a class apart on the pitch I admit, and he would almost instantaneously fit in at Chelsea FC due to his playing style. But do we really need someone who will drag our beloved club to be called as a club of cheaters? One man can do that, and you know it is Suarez. I might be being a little too critical here, but yes, you can’t actually deny it either.
2)      Two-Faced Individual: At first I saw him sharing a joke with his opponent, then he shared a handshake, he helped his opponent get back on his feet, apologized publically for his errors, thanked his fans, and I thought to myself, golly, what a good lad, we should had signed him directly from Ajax instead of Torres! And then, the middle finger salute to Fulham fans, abused Evra (I don’t wholely blame Luis on that though, Evra is annoying), dived all the time, bit our Ivanovic, and then I thought, phew, that was bullet that we avoided. What exactly is Luis Suarez? At first he shows his humble side, then comes a few moments of madness. He first said he wanted to stay at Liverpool despite all the problems to repay their support, then he comes out and says he wants to move out of England, Liverpool not to be blamed for that, and finally comes out and says that he is willing to move within England to another PL team too if he can get CL participation. Think well before you speak Luis, we aren’t dimwits to forget statements so easily.
3)      Bans, bans and loads of bans: Take off a teeny bit of aggression from Joey Barton, and add a good amount of quality, and you have Luis Suarez in your hands. Wouldn’t it be ironic if Luis Suarez ended up completing his domestic ban for biting Ivanovic as a Chelsea player? And there is no guarantee that this man will not get himself banned for some other antic again. Liverpool has been really patient with him, and quite frankly, not by choice. It is because of Suarez that Liverpool had a decent season in the PL, and if they had decided to get rid of him, God knows in which position they would had ended up in.
4)      Position: Again, where exactly would he get a position all for himself? I don’t suppose he would take up the right wing slot just because he wants to play. Then again, not a deal breaker, as we could change formations to suit him and play double strikers upfront.
5)      Money: While Rooney didn’t have a high price tag but had a high wage bill, it is vice versa for Suarez, his wages are not too heavy, but price tag sure is. He was rated about 42m till last week, until a certain ex-Chelsea man by the name of Mr. Brendon Rodgers decided to come out and say Suarez is as good as/better than Cavani and deserves a similar price tag on his head. And then we have an inflated price of 55m over him now. Is he still worth all that?
The thing is, I am not saying that either of them would be a unwelcomed or misfit choice for Chelsea FC to go for, I’d love to see either of them in our ranks the next season, but even if they aren’t there, it’s still well and fine for me. This article was just a reminder that it is not all butterflies and dreamy sceneries in case the deal goes through for either of them. There is always a good and bad for almost every single thing that happens. But then, we will still support them till the end in case they decide to wear the blue jersey with honor, won’t we?
😉

  4. Controversy is part of d game. What we need is goals. Someone 2 bang in d goals.
Another thing. Pls give us d positives of signing either of them

  5. Yeah, he kinda does but it’s entirely understandable to have such contempt for people who are, frankly, behaving like MAHASSIVE douchebags. I’m the same at work. If people make a habit of acting special, you’re gonna end up treating them like that in future.
