Since the beginning of the transfer window, chelsea have been signing very impressive players who have all played first team football at their previous clubs, but will have to fight for their places in Chelsea’s starting XI. In this article I will give you my opinion on the starting line up for the big games.
1) Petr Čech
The Chelsea regular goalkeeper has been in the starting line up since he joined the team back in 2004. The Czech Republic goalkeeper has a total of 200 clean sheets in 428 appearances.
2) Cesar Azpilicueta
Azpillicueta’s speed and ability to go forward to create chances by crossing and coming back to defense makes him an automatic starter against big teams as we saw last season. But we still wait until Mourinho sees this.
3) Gary Cahill & David Luiz
The duo at center back have played together a lot last season and the season before and both of them have shown great signs of improvement at the back when playing together due to both their physical strength and heading skills.
3) Ashley Cole
Ashley Cole has seen his place in the Chelsea squad frozen ever since he joined Chelsea from London rivals Arsenal in 2006, he has lately seen competition from Ryan Bertrand but has still been the starting left back for Chelsea. Ashley Cole’s speed has helped Chelsea a lot and continues to help them like we saw against Bayern Munich as he was arguably one of the best players on the pitch in the match.
5) Ramires
The new Ramires we are seeing will have to start in big matches as we saw since the beginning of the season that his passing has been outstanding. Ramires’ physical strength and speed can help him play a “De Rossi” role which allows him to act as a CB when the opposition attacks as David Luiz and Gary Cahill move wide to help the full backs. We might see Ramires play a more defensive role under Mourinho.
6) Oscar
Oscar has proved that he can play in the pivot efficiently twice, last season against Juventus and against Bayern Munich after the red card Ramires got in the UEFA Super Cup. Since the start of the season we have seen Oscar’s work rate improving greatly and it was shown against Bayern Munich where he was running the whole 120 minutes non stop, helping the defenders multiple times.
7) Hazard
The 22 year old has seen himself excel in most of the big matches he has featured and he played a big role in the Europa League triumph. Hazard’s ability to dribble past defenders and unleash one of his power shots or crossing the ball and creating an assist is something not many of our attacking midfielders have. He will play a major role in the future in tough matches. He’s surely our most sparkling midfielder.
8) Mata
Juan Mata who has joined Chelsea in the summer of 2011 has been the best player for Chelsea the past 2 seasons winning back to back the Chelsea player of the season and has also been the decisive in big games, whether he’s assisting or scoring. Mata as a CAM can move around the striker and score or slide to the wings play it wide to the striker.
9) Schürrle
André Schürrle has joined Chelsea earlier in the transfer window for around £18m and since the start of the window has seemed to become one of Mourinho’s favorite players and game by game is going back to his Leverkusen form. Schürrle’s strength, speed and work rate are of very high quality. Schürrle has played a big role against Bayern Munich in defending and creating chances in counter attacks using his speed. His ability to track back and help defenders will help him prove he’s a player to be in the Mourinho starting XI.
10) Torres
Torres may not be a prolific goal scorer for Chelsea but he sure is the only striker we have that can cope with the pressure of big matches. We have seen him score very important goals in matches against Barcelona, Benfica and Bayern Munich. Torres can also create space by grabbing defenders towards him to the sides, leaving space for Mata, Hazard and Schürrle
This sums up my opinion on who should start in big matches. Thank you for reading & leave your replies below.
Nice one, only too many feather weights……. Mancity will relish such a line up (we ll get bullied in midfield: EPL mostly)
U got azpi and cole mixed up in your line up.
What of Willian and Etoo
This is your own selection, the arrogant Mou’ has his own rigid line up.
