A look at Lukaku’s comments and Mou’s reaction so far

On Friday last week, The Blues were preparing for a homes clash against Southampton to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to Basel in the midweek UCL game. It was then when on-loan teenage striker Romelu Lukaku made arguably the most controversial comments in his Chelsea career to date. In a strong message directed at Mourinho, the Belgian said he was surplus to requirements at the Bridge and claimed who might make his Everton move permanent should they finish in the top four.

Here is the quote from Lukaku- “It’s a bit strange at the minute, the last time I heard from [Chelsea] was a couple of months ago. It was not the fact that I was not wanted, I was wanted but I had to make a decision for myself,” Lukaku added.

“I had to analyse what the best was for me. Imagine if I was playing Chelsea now, I would play maybe five games maybe score one or two goals. Look now I’m playing for Everton, I’ve played eight games and scored seven goals. Everybody in England is talking about me about my performances and as a player I’m improving, I’m having that certain consistency in my game.”

And in reply to that Message from Lukaku, Jose Mourinho responded rather angrily by reminding why the striker had to leave Stamford bridge and play at Everton.

Replying to those comments, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho said on Friday: “Romelu likes to speak. He’s a young boy. But the only thing that he didn’t say is why he went to Everton on loan. My last contact with him was to tell him exactly that.
‘Why you never say why you are not here?’ It’s something that he should say, because he likes to speak, the reason why he is not with Chelsea and he is in Everton.”

This classy response from Jose surely has delivered a strong message to the player and reminded him that he is still the unfinished product in-terms of being one of the best strikers in the world and succeed at the club his idol Didier Drogba dominated at for 8 years at Stamford Bridge.

We can say Lukaku is still immature in the way he has to deal with the media when such things are concerned. But, he surely will learn from making stupid claims in media exposing a situation that should have stayed between him and the club manager Jose. Mou’s response goes not only to Lukaku but also for other players on-loan impressing. The likes of Thibaut Courtois.

The message is there is a big reasons they aren’t at Stamford Bridge helping the team and that’s because they may not be ready or the situation of the squad isn’t comfortable for them to grow as fast as possible as players while also helping the team. It’s easy to understand the ambition of the club and targets at Chelsea aren’t in no way compared to that of Athletico Madrid let alone Everton.

So, it will be wise for the youngsters to keep their feet on the ground and do the talking on the pitch. In this case for Lukaku, keep scoring goals for Everton and keep impressing. Show the improvements Jose wants to see and earn a spot at the Bridge for the next term. Here additional quotes from Jose in the latest press-conference before the Sunderland game: “Maybe there is a new rule in football where when the season finishes every player is able to decide their own future.”

That was when he was asked about the comments from the past week yet again by journalists. Thanks for reading and please make sure to sound of your opinions below on what you think. Follow me on twitter (@FahmiCFC)

    Jose meant that Lukaku should have told the press that he (RL) was the one who handed in the loan transfer request. Actually, CFC was ready to send Ba on loan but reversed the decision after Lukaku’s transfer request.

    No Criticsm, No Regrets.The purpose of sending Lukaku on loan is to play regularly and score goals and he is doing that at Everton.This is a clear indication he responding well to his developement program.

  3. yes.he shd knw he has 2 impress at loan if wld like to play for chelsea.we have 3 quality strikers in chelsea.WITH BA the best.lukaku shut up n score goals kid

    • Yet he has scored more goals than our 3 strikers?

  4. He is playing @ everton where there is no pressure to deliver or a must to win trophy every season compare to chelsea if he likes let him score 200 goals if he comes back he still need to learn how to play with the pressure until he develop in this way I still believe he,s got lot to learn

  5. Mourinho mentioned that Lukaku “likes to talk” and should come forward and tell the “real truth”:

    Prior to the Chelsea United game, Mourinho told players their strategy of playing without a striker. Idea was that United wouldn’t be expecting it and they would hopefully score before they were able to realize problem and restructure.

    Story goes that Lukaku, presumably annoyed at not getting to play and upset about Eto’o’s arrival, leaked information to a friend and it found its way to the United backroom.

    Mourinho then arrives in Manchester to discover that United were set-up and prepared to deal with his striker-less game plan.

    Up to that point the plan had been to loan out Ba but upon discovering it was Lukaku who had leaked, he was sent off instead.

    Lukaku asked for a move the day after he missed the penalty in the Super Cup and said he couldn’t compete with CFC strikers.

    TIMELINE:
    Man Utd v Chelsea: 08/26;
    Eto’o arrival: 08/28;
    Super Cup: 08/30;
    Move to Everton 9/3

    He ( Lukaku) is too talkative, he must concetrate on scoring goals only.

    His maturity is not only needed on the field of play but also in his behavior, he is yet a professional, let him do the talking on the field

  8. Chelsea4life

    As a person, he will never reach his idol Drogba’s level because unlike his idol, he does not love our club like he claimed before all this nonsense started. If he does, he would have opted to stay and fight for his team. Frankly speaking, he is not fit to play for Chelsea despite his goals.

    • Lol must be a joke this comment? He is thinking about playing the the World Cup so he wants to play regularly not his fault he wants to represent his country, he does love this club and if you where a true Chelsea fan you would of seen his very first interview with the tour round the club and how amazed he was with it all and said then he loves the club

  9. Lukaku the controversial one… seeking cheap attention via the press war.

    By the way, anyone who thinks Chelsea is a cheap spot for nowadays strikers, to score goals like picking pebbles in a park, should have a rethink because I don’t see Lukaku doing better than our trio if he were here and he can ask the latest being Sturidge in that sequence. Everton is a thriving ground no doubt but we have better objectives than focusing on one kid to return from loan.

    Good luck to Lukaku. I’m looking forward to hear more of the antics…

  10. @alex.he is the only main striker at everton.the style at everton is nt what we hav at chelsea.longballs in and lukaku pops up…at chelsea he wld nt score even a single goal.i bet on that.ths kid jst needs more time

    First Mou says to RL he should explain why ‘RL’ decided to leave, a few days later Mou states it is ‘Mou’ who decides who goes where on loan … Anyone can follow here ?

    Anyhow, reading the very first message of Lukaku, what is actually so wrong with that. He has an absolute point that it makes no sense to be part of such a huge squad, when the perspective will be the bench more often than the pitch, and that it is far better for him at his age to get the hell out of there and play regularly elsewhere on loan, or his career is over already. Guess guys like Mata, Ba, Luiz, Cole, etc. are all thinking exactly the same, i.e. to get the hell out of there …

    Look at Courtois. Suppose he had decided not to go out on loan those past three years, no one would know him, and his career would be over already. Does anyone still know the current 2nd goalie’s name. The guy of 40 years Mou brought in. Get my point? So great move and great decision to get out for TC. His career is flying as we speak …

    These past months Mou also had not one positive note to mention about KDB, today suddenly Mou opens all his charm to KDB. Bullocks if you ask me. Mou just wants to keep a reserve player for another reserve player. KDB should get the hell out. If he doesn’t, his career will be dead in six months from now.

    I still feel that after all these months Mou still has no clear view on his squad. But I do appreciate his honesty when he says ‘I can only put eleven players on the pitch’. Guess it’s not an easy job keeping the entire squad happy.

    But then I really don’t understand the Club’s policy. A +20 player squad, +20 players out on loan, an enormous youth squad, but let’s face it, all those young chelsea kids will never get a chance to play for the first team, because it is million dollar transfer fees to get new bench warmers in.

    • NDUBUISI AGWUNCHA

      We want to hear that Lukaku is happy whereever he is and stop making negetive comments about his parent club.The motive and objective of going on loan is well understood and he is achieving it at Everton.If Lukaku can score 3goals against Man U tonight like he did with WBA last season,I shall be the happiest blue fan.

    • You have analysed the situation in a well-balanced way. I agree. I hope the club could modify his policy because we have so many young talents and we don’t want to lose them…
