Azonto Epistle 16: Celebrating Roman Abramovic, Defying The Status Quo, Daring To Be Different

1045038_10201477322761142_1992612357_nHave you thought of how a decision believed to have been taken within minutes backed by action by one person can go a long way to alter the order of affair in England, Europe & the world? Well, the remote cause for buying Chelsea have been told 1000 times, attributing it to the 2003 Champions League match between Manchester United and Real Madrid which produced goals, excitement and passion and attended by Roman Abramovic, he took the decision to buy a football club in England. I’m not so keen on that story though, as there are people in the world who try hard to fix themselves in every issue or let’s say, rub themselves in action spots or fame. It’s just like that Liverpool kid who was busily trying to identify himself among the Chelsea players in our moment of glory in Amsterdam when the Chelsea players were going for their winning medals. I’m not saying that’s the role Manchester United are playing in this but it also sounds too simplistic to think a multi million pounds decision was made on a foot of such a ridiculous assertion and even forgetting about what even prompted the Billionaire to attend that match. Well, let me not drag myself into committing a similar error in giving attention to the attention seekers in my own trajectory of looking at things and focus on the relevance and the One who truly deserve the spotlight.
“Just as they were in the middle of negotiation and had given themselves some days to make due diligence and evaluation, He (Roman Abramovic) walked into the room and within 15 minutes, everybody had agreed that Chelsea had been bought for £140m” wow!
Ten years since the decision to buy Chelsea was finalised and the club which was in financial crisis and had not won the League title for 48 years, Chelsea are now among the top 5 clubs in the world, winning 3 league titles, four F.A Cups, 2 League Cups, a Europa League and oh, the Champions League and still counting… He has since invested more than a billion pounds into realising the team becomes part of the greats in world football. The beauty of it which annoys club rivals is that he does things in his own way, and has managed to depose the old order of Arsenal and Manchester United always the one competing fort the title. He has not only invested money in the playing body but in the entire structure of the club, from building a state-of-the art and ultramodern training complex at Cobham, good academy facility, top class managers, sporting directors, scouts and extending it across the world with Blue Pitches and many others.
Yes, he has paid, almost £120m in hiring and firing managers, yes, he has bought players at a high cost and they could not match their valuation on the pitch but also, yes he has got the desired results. His impact on English football has been huge and it is so true that he forced The English Clubs to Compete and compete well. With the arrival of an equally ambitious manager in Jose Mourinho, who could taunt his title rivals, the EPL became the toast of the moment and it impacted on their performance in the Champions League where there were times when 4 out of the 8 quarter finalists were English clubs and 3 out of the 4 semi finalists were English clubs. And oh, there has ever been an all EPL club final in 2008 with Chelsea involved in each of all these phases of the competition.
His biggest criticism has been not sticking to the old order of achieving with one manager, and they call it “stability”. Roman has therefore proven time and again that success does not come Only through that means they call it “stability”. To him, stability is when a club continues to succeed irrespective of who is at the helm as a manager. They want to achieve in their own way but Roman has his way. Peter Cech, one of the players who has stayed through a ” stabled” period of success with different managers at Chelsea said, he prefers to win titles and achieve success under different managers continuously than get get stuck under one manager for a very long time without success like the Arsenal model. So, yes, they can define “stability” from their own dictionary but we are not bound to stick to that and we also have pretty good dictionary under the pillow of Roman Abramovic and it is working for us, and well, if we get the Special One who can ride us through a good period of success, we will all be happy to stick with him for a good period of time.
Roman Abramovic has been a beautiful piece of gift to Chelsea, English football, the English economy (apart from the huge investment, he pays his tax unlike a bloke in Barcelona), the journalists who construct 1000s of reports and articles about Chelsea for a living, some true and untrue and oh, including the Spurs, Arsenal and even Bayern Munich.
CONGRATULATIONS, MR. ABRAMOVIC, AZONTO EPISTLE FANS THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Respect to Roman! but sacking RDM is somewhat a strange thing in his 10 year period. And one more thing to writer of article, praise our club and club members but don’t show disrespect to great players of game(about tax issue) like lionel messi, it is out of point. We don’t know what happened exactly. In chelsea fc there are lot of people who like and respect messi.

  3. Good piece. Roman brought glory to Chelsea and deserves all the credit.
