Badiashile and Felix fire Chelsea to their first victory in six matches

Managing his sixth game since returning on an interim basis, Frank Lampard finally got his first win in an entertaining 3-1 win at the Vitality stadium.

Here are three talking points from the match :

Madueke the main threat again:

Coming off the back of an impressive midweek performance against Arsenal, Frank Lampard kept faith with England U21 international Noni Madueke who repaid his manager’s faith with another positive performance.

Playing on the far right as the Right wing, Noni’s main weapon as a 1V1 threat was on show as he completed the most dribbles in the match (5).

Despite his positive play down the flanks, Noni’s inefficiency was quite evident as he completed 0 crosses from his 3 attempts and could barely cut balls back whenever he got forced onto his right foot.

It remains clearly evident though the amount of talent Noni possesses and with his close dribbling, strength, pace and bag of tricks, he’s certainly going to pose more problems for opposing fullbacks in matches to come.

Could RLC be Enzo’s most suitable partner yet? :

Owning the tag of the most expensive player bought by an English club, Enzo Fernandez has often found himself getting extra attention from opponents since his January record transfer from Benfica.

Adapting to a new team and a new league is never easy and coming into a team facing a massive rebuild in the middle of the season definitely impacted Enzo’s influence on the team but his quality still shines through.

Finding his most suitable partner amongst the current crop was a huge concern for Potter and Frank has also faced such problems as he’s shuffled across his midfield trying different options.

In what is Chelsea’s best performance yet since Enzo joined, the game at West Ham represents a really decent argument for the case of a RLC-Enzo pivot as both players seem to get along a lot more together than others.

Here against Bournemouth, Enzo’s influence on the attack came from a distance as he had to be involved in building play-up from the defence and his long passes from deep did help set up some nice attacks for the Blues.

RLC on the other hand has seemingly developed a “mini-connection” with the Argentine as they often interchange positions seamlessly while on the pitch with both looking as the best possible pairing in the middle of the park.

A case could be argued for Kante also but his habit of constantly moving and looking to nick the ball off opponents higher up the park means Enzo has to sit a lot more and be disciplined when on the ball.

RLC’s inclusion also coincided with Chelsea taking the game away from Bournemouth as his quick interchange of passes in tight areas helped Chelsea wriggle out of the Cherries’ press, thereby creating good chances to score.

Enzo’s passing ability and RLC’s press resistance and physicality compliment each other perfectly.
It remains to be seen how often both players are selected alongside each other.

Super Kante back to full fitness and form :

Dominating UCL semi-final ties against a Galactico midfield of Kross, Casemiro, and Modric is no mean feat but for an imperious N’golo Kante, such feats are easy to come by.

Age and persistent injuries have all affected Kante’s recent performances though and that has seen the former World Cup winner struggle to replicate such immense performances in recent years.

After missing most of this season due to a hamstring operation, Kante’s influence of late has grown on the team and his performance here against Bournemouth was reminiscent of the Kante of previous Chelsea triumphant seasons.

Boasting 100% in metrics like accurate crosses, dribbles completed and tackles won all point towards Kante’s usual all-action displays.

His constant running and drives with the ball from deep all remain top class but Kante’s final balls in recent games have been poor with the Frenchman often taking the wrong options while in transition,
sure a part of his game that needs improvement.

Man of the match – Gallagher: 8/10.

Next up for Chelsea is a home tie against Nottingham Forest next weekend.
