Last night after reading some comments made by our loaned out goalkeeper Courtios, I was wondering whether we would see him at his parent club ever?
Seeing him make brilliant saves for the Spanish club Atletico Madrid reminds me of Peter Cech, at times some of his saves and reflexes look better than our goalkeeper. The Belgian’s dazzling work between the sticks hasn’t gone unnoticed at all. Open interest from the Barcelona President tells the true picture.
With just two years remaining in his contract after this season , it should be the first priority for the club to make sure that we get a contract extension signed as soon as possible or get him to the Stamford Bridge and make him our #1 so that his future with us is secured.
Thibout has grown from strength to strength since the moment he was loaned out. He now stands 1.99 meters. And arguably he is in the top 5 goalkeepers of the world at the moment.
He has been brilliant since he was at his first club Racing Genk . There he was the Goalkeeper of the Year and Genk’s Player of the Year award as he only allowed the ball 32 times get pass him in 40 league matches and keeping 14 clean sheets for Genk. And with this, he was signed by us for mere 7Million. And the rest is history.
Peter Cech vs Thibout Courtois : Statistically (2011-to date) :
Age | Height | Clean Sheets | Penalty Stats | |
Peter Cech | 31 | 1.96m | 37.06% | 20/87 |
Courtois | 21 | 1.99m | 44.33% | 3/12 |
The stats clearly show that regarding the clean sheets, Courtios is way ahead of Peter Cech, the reason could well be the competitiveness of the EPL or the slight defense issues that have occurred in the past with the Blues. But if we go more in the past, Peter’s percentage clean sheet per season averages above 50% till 2005-06 season. This shows that the ‘prime form’ of Cech has well passed.
While, on the other hand, Courtios’s stats have improved each passing season. He won the Zamora Trophy in the past season, ahead of the likes of Casillas, Lopez or Valdes.
Can they be kept in the same squad?
Even though Courtios has clearly stated that he would not come back to Stamford Bridge just to warm the bench as he wants to play, but keeping them in the same squad is not a bad option at all.
Jose could assign both keepers a cup competition where, barring injury, they will start every game just like Real Madrid does with Iker and Lopez. This will certainly get the best out of both of them. Cech has been always good for us but since his arrival, he hardly faced any competition for the #1 jersey.
But taking this step would certainly not make any of them happy as they both are good enough to start every game .
Or Should we sell any one of them?
Cech has always been rock solid for us in the past 10 years and with the passage of time, he will look rusty. No player can play on forever. But Peter is 31 has got some more years in him. On the other hand, he shall be good for another 3-4 seasons at most and then might be not as good as we need him to be.
Selling him in the very near future is the best option available as we will get a decent transfer sum and Peter will also find it easy to adapt to new club at age of 32 than of 35.
Courtios-
Courtios is young in the business but has praises from everyone in mere 2 years with the Madrid side. He looks one of the most promising youngsters in the world. There are lesser chances of him extending his contract with us if we continue to loan him . Barcelona are already interested in him and in case Real Madrid come sniffing around after their issues with Iker, Courtios will want join them without any second thoughts.
In my opinion, we should get Courtios back as early as we could . Jose is clearly looking forward with a young team . With the likes of Lampard, Terry and Cole’s Chelsea career to be finished in short time, the prospect of a ‘young’ team looks even more clearer.
I don’t understand the reason for this piece.Tibault. Is our player and should not have been on loan this season. He should have been playing more games at chelsea while pete cech get some game time.I think tibault is a better keeper than cech.He is younger, more hungry and a good keeper.Let this boy come back to chelsea next season or we extend his contract now!.I heard in some publication that we are talking to Valdes,FOR WHAT???.who is Valdes?he was never a good keeper save for his team,we would have known he is very ordinary. He isn’t half of tibault.now barca will sell valdes and buy tibault from us??Come on!!.Please,I think it is time Cech accept this terms.Tibault is chelsea’s future.
bring him back & play both just like madrid plays lopez & iker, den gradualy reduce peters playing time.dont sell cech he is a club legend & courtious is the future.tank u.
Sell cech? U mad bro? We dont sell legends, we release em
They are both good enough for the number 1 spot, we should treat our players with more respect…when they are good we praise them and when they blunder a little with the age thing we hurriedly put them to the stick…Thats not fair as fans..meanwhile I totally agree to renew Courtouis contract but also give Cech another year or even 2 at the helms of things a good example is Van Der Saar even as I so hated him

nobody sell legends.. i think that cech’s playing time must be reduced in order to play courtois between the sticks
seeing a player end his career at chelsea in modern times would be a great tin not just in the case of cech and courtois but generally
as usual we should rotation system next season for goalkeeper position
Curtuois should be our 1st choice next season period
I do not tink loyalty is a word in the life of our nigerian chelseafc fans
On va te dire que ce n’est guère incohérent ..
Bon ba ce post va aller sur mon blog
