Cesar Azpilicueta – Great Buy

Cesar Azpilicueta-Great Buy!
Cesar Azpilicueta-Great Buy!

Back in the summer us Chelsea fans were relishing big-name signings and oh Roman didn’t disappoint. Without a shadow of a doubt it was a tragedy losing club legend Didier Drogba, the man who will be planted in our memories for the rest of our lives! Having finally captured the Holy grail Roman Abramovich wanted to steer the club into a new era led by Di Matteo. He wanted to inject flare into our play and was desperate to add creative players. It’s clear to see from the list of signings that we would be transferring into a new age. Eden Hazard, Victor Moses, Cesar Azpilicueta, Oscar, Marko Marin, Thorgan Hazard.

This was a real statement of intent by Abramovich and it was a very exciting time for us blues fans. Abramovich’s statement was transferd on to the pitch with early impressive performance’s. However as we all know we hit a stumbling block and Di Matteo was no more!

It really was a brilliant 2012 for Azpilicueta. He earned respect from fans all over the world with his brilliant performances, this even earned him a place in Vincent Del Bosque’s olympic squad. Azpilicueta’s 2012 was capped off by a move to Chelsea.

It took a while for Azpilicueta to get introduced into the team and he made his début in a 6-0 drubbing of Wolves ( Capital One Cup 25/09/12). The following week he made his début coming on as a late sub in a 4-1 home victory. He did have to wait until 03/11/12 to make his first premier league start in a draw with the Swans! Since then he’s made another 23apps fifteen of those in the premier league!

Azpilicueta has been a regular under Rafa earning praise from pundits and fans alike. His defending ability is brilliant for a 23-year-old and i for see him having a long and sucessful career in a blue shirt. He’s been one of our most disciplined players having only picked up 2 yellow card , and on top of that he is probably one of our most consistent players.

Without a doubt he’s had a big impact on the fans and he’s already gained a nickname “DAVE”! He’s been recognised as one of the best RB’s in the prem thanks to his brilliant work rate, his excellent tackling, his desire to block shots/crosses, his menacing runs up the touch-line and his threatening crosses.

Personally I adore him he always gives 110% and is eager to help out his teammates any possible way he can. I also love watching him attacking down the wings and pumping balls into the box! To be honest I’m so glad that we signed this future star ahead of the like’s of Maicon, Debuchy,Van Der Wiel and Piszczek.

Maicon isn’t the strongest RB in the world and he really wasn’t value for money. Personally I feel he is overrated and only now the Football World are realising this. His move to Man City really hasn’t developed him as a player and he hasn’t been able to break into the starting eleven.

Debuchy- Many clubs were linked with Debuchy and I was more than willing to see him wearing a Chelsea shirt.Alternativley I felt that the 27 year old had reached the peek of his footballing career and I hoped that we would invest in a younger player.

Piszczek is regarded highly in Poland as being one of their’s best players. Yet again I was very enthusiastic about this deal alternatively I felt that he had reached his greatest potential .

Van Der wiel- I’m not a very big fan of Van Der Wiel. He is so over hyped for a player who offers very little on the pitch. Ajax were demanding a lot of money so I was happy the deal didn’t go through.

So on the 24th of August 2012 I was ecstatic that we announced the signing of a young 22-year-old Cesar Azpilicueta. I was also very pleased that we bought a unique talent for so little considering our wild reputation of splashing the cash!

I always love seeing his name on the team sheet and I can’t wait until the day when he scores his first Chelsea goal! I’d love to hear your thoughts, I hope you’ve enjoyed this!

  1. Great write up,I can’t but agree wt u, ‘Dave’ has been one of our more consistent performers this season. He’s indeed a great buy.

  2. Give him two or three seasons and he’ll easilly be one of the best or thee best right back in the world. From his performance against Wigan one can only be optimistic. I feel that performance was inspired by his international call up from the European and World Champions,Spain.

  3. Azpi certainly has been one of our best performers this season. Among the best!

  4. Vaibhav Kumble

The best deal we had since Makelele.

  5. cesar is a top player. he has the ability to get forward, defend and anyone who gets past him he doesnt give up, he goes back to try and stop thats what chelsea wanted. he has those dangerous and beautiful crosses. im glad we signed him and he deserves to be chelsea’s new RB 🙂
