Player ratings: Chelsea collapse in second half to Aston Villa as pressure piles on Enzo Maresca

Late defeat for Chelsea at Villa Park as a Jorgensen mistake gifts Emery’s side the three points.

An improvement in performance and definitely a harsh defeat. That’s the way it is though right now.

Player ratings below :

Filip Jorgensen – 5

Would’ve been higher if it wasn’t for his fatal error late on. Actually made a couple of decent saves throughout the game but, his late mistake cost us a point.

Malo Gusto – 5

Not great, not awful. Couple of solid defensively contributions bit ultimately it counted for nothing.

Trevoh Chalobah – N/A

Levi Colwill – 5

Better than what he’s offered recently but not overly convincing. Looked a lot more aggressive, stepping up tonight.

Marc Cucurella – 6

Decent overall I thought. 95% passes completed, won three of his five ground duels too. Not too bad.

Enzo Fernandez – 7

Scored early on and had a really good game for the most part. However, couldn’t step up in line with our other defenders and played Rashford onside in the build up to their equaliser. Looked a lot more like a confident version of himself.

Reece James – 6

Looked fairly tidy overall in a slightly different midfield role. Wasn’t perfect but I think it’s something that could work moving forward the more we do it.

Moises Caicedo – 7

Not too bad overall, a lot better than recent games. Solid in most parts on the ball, won half of his ground duels too. Can’t complain too much.

Pedro Neto – 7

Had a really decent game tonight given he was playing in an unfamiliar position most of the game. Lovely assist for our goal, taking on Maatsen and being really direct.

Christopher Nkunku – 3

Horrific. Never ever in the game at any point, no link up play, no chances created even for him. Awful.

Cole Palmer – 4

Again never really in the game. Had a glorious chance to possibly win it for us with 15 to play but slipped at the vital moment. Not his night.

Substitutes:

Jadon Sancho – N/A

Tosin Adarabioyo – 5

Came on early and did okay overall. Nothing to write home about.

Enzo Maresca – 6

I was fairly happy to have seen something that felt at least a little different tonight. Ultimately let down by errors again, and I place little to no blame on him.
