Chelsea tracking Croatian youngster Tonci Mujan

Chelsea are one of a number of European clubs tracking highly-rated Hajduk Split youngster Tonci Mujan, although the winger isn’t expected to be on his way to the Premier League just yet. The 18-year old may have wasted little time in establishing himself as one of Europe’s most exciting youngsters, but Mujan’s father Nikola has admitted his son doesn’t expect to leave Croatia during this January transfer window.

Chelsea, who are favourites with Betfair to sign Mujan in the summer, will have to battle it out with a number of Serie A clubs for the youngster’s signature, with Lazio, Napoli, Cagliari and Chievo all reported to be keeping a close eye on the player.

Mujan, who had come close to signing for Liverpool a couple of years ago, is also reportedly being monitored by Tottenham and Premier League favourites, Manchester City, although the winger’s father has admitted he expects the winger to remain at Hajduk Spit for the time being.

“I must admit a number of clubs are interested in Tonci. Some years ago he got a call to come to Liverpool, but he stayed.”

“Now there are more clubs from England who want him, and also from Italy. But for now he wants to stay at Hajduk and become an even better player. But then again we have to see what kind of plans his club has for him.”

Should the Croatia Under-18 international resist any offers that come this way in January, Mujan is expected to have his choice of clubs by the summer, although it is the Blues who have been tipped by Betfair to sign the Croatian.

The left-winger has been an important part of Hajduck’s side since making his debut last May, and staying in Croatia and playing regular first-team football for another six months may not be the worst thing for the youngster to do before making a possible move to the Bridge.
