Chelsea thrashed PSG 3-0 in the Club World Cup final to take home the trophy.
Cole Palmer grabbed two goals and Joao Pedro topped off the masterclass with a beautifully chipped finish.
The spotlight for this article is on Palmer and his outstanding game.
There have been plenty of fans and pundits that have doubted the Englishman’s ability in big games, but today he firmly put those doubts to rest.
Starting off with his two goals. The first one that sent us on our way to victory saw a simple pass from Malo Gusto find the feet of Cole, as he calmly slotted his shot into the left hand corner of Gianluigi Donnaruma’s goal.
The second goal saw Palmer got on the end of a beautiful ball, as he basically replicated his finish from the first goal.
The goals don’t tell the whole story though, throughout the game he once again looked like he had far more freedom to impact the game.
Maresca has tweaked the way his team plays to allow that to happen, you could see that by overlapping runs from Gusto and runs into the channel by Joao Pedro giving Cole more space to work with.
His partnership with Joao is also something that needs to be talked about as well.
They’ve only played together three times, yet their chemistry has increased quicker than anyone expected.
The link-up between the two was quick and efficient which made it extremely tough for PSG to deal with.
Pedro’s goal ended up coming from a beautiful assist from Palmer to make it 3-0 to the Blues, as Cole spotted a smart run from the Brazilian putting that chemistry between the two on full display.
Out of every signing Chelsea has made under this new ownership, Palmer has a case of being labelled as the best and most important of the lot.
Nobody can deny that £42.5 million is outstanding value for money, and it’s incredible how many iconic moments he’s created in a Chelsea shirt already in his Blues career.
He’s delivered the second trophy to Stamford Bridge, and the club are very lucky to have him locked down to a very lengthy contract.
Now the work starts for the new season ahead, which hopefully contains more incredible moments from Palmer like we saw in this final.
