Conor Gallagher is hard to bench – Chelsea should be seriously thinking about a new contract

A place he used to call home after spending the 2021/2022 season on loan from Chelsea, Selhurst Park is fast becoming Conor Gallagher’s playing ground.

Somewhat of a biblical referencing of a “Prodigal” son, Gallagher’s work at Selhurst park hasn’t been forgotten and the 24-year old remains on the good books of many in South London.

Despite his struggles at the front of goal since returning to Stamford Bridge, Gallagher seems to rediscover his goal-scoring instincts whenever he visits the Selhurst Park (3 goals in two games at Selhurst Park since returning).

Now, to his performance on Monday, which saw him score the decisive goal.

Operating as the furthest of a midfield trio of Caicedo, Enzo and himself, Gallagher looked to continue his midweek exploits as Pochettino stuck with the front four that humbled Aston Villa at the Villa park.

Often switching positions with Palmer up top, Gallagher looked to make late, ghosting runs into the box as Palace defended deep.

One of Gallagher’s deep, well-timed late runs did see him strike Chelsea back on level terms before the England international won the game for the Blues late on.

As has become customary of a Conor Gallagher performance for Chelsea this season, the former Palace loanee led the Chelsea press incredibly well and worked hard off the ball, helping the team keep its balance.

Question; Seeing Gallagher’s new found goal-scoring knack, is it still a good business if Chelsea decides to cash in come the summer?

Acknowledging his limitations in possession of the ball, while sharpening his abilities off it, Gallagher’s dedication to the team and meticulous approach to following the coaches’ instructions to the tiniest of details has seen him become a crucial player.

With some arguing on basis of his technical limitations, it has fast become a struggle for Chelsea to bench the former Palace loanee and may force Chelsea into offering a new deal.
