Dropped after the last international break for the game against Liverpool, Enzo Fernandez appeared to have been relegated to ‘team B’.
His first start in the premier league since the game Nottingham Forest, Enz looked back to his devastating best at the King Power stadium earlier today.
Despite returning late from South America courtesy of the last international break of the year where he started both of Argentina’s games, Fernandez looked fresh and full of energy as he started in midfield alongside Caicedo and Cole Palmer.
In the quest to silence doubters and put an halt to the calls for him to remain on the bench, Enzo continued his recent form of contributing numbers as he registered one goal and one assist.
The assist and goal were quite similar and in particular rewarded Enzo of his recent improvement-Box crashing.
Enzo’s ability to dictate the tempo of a game and his wide range of passes makes him a ‘special’ profile for teams looking to keep the ball like Chelsea.
And with his recent improvement in the area of crashing the box and delivering numbers (goals and assists), it remains to be seen how much longer Chelsea gets to keep the 23-year old before the ‘big sharks’ come knocking.
After all, he is not here to accept his current position in the squad.
Looking to give Maresca a selection headache with the foray of fixtures to follow during this festive period, the former Benfica man registered 79 touches of the ball, from which he created the most chances in the game with (3), registered one goal and assist.
Off the ball, Fernandez contributed his quota as he chipped in with 7/9 ground duels won and 5 recoveries.
The conference league is back this Thursday and it is exciting to see who/what midfield pairing Maresca goes with as the Italian manager tends to rest his Premier League starters in midweek.
