Amidst all the noise surrounding the club during these past weeks, one man has slowly built up steam, covering himself in glory despite the team’s poor form.

24-year old Argentine Enzo Fernandez has slowly re-built his confidence with consistent above-average performances over the past 3-4 matches. 

Working hard for the team and covering large distances each game due to this role, Fernandez has shown leadership in the club’s trying run.

Despite his limitations off the ball and poor dueling ability, Enzo’s effort to recover his position after an attack breaks-down goes a long way to helping the team maintain balance. 

Firmly believed to be the only player in the squad capable of playing the role to perfection as previously stated by Maresca; 

“Enzo is the only midfielder we have for the role who is able to join the attack from the pivot position…”

The demands of the position remain difficult to fulfill, but Enzo is taking it in his stride.

Taking responsibility of the team’s deep build-up when opponents mark out options, Fernandez consistently shows for the ball in difficult game states and never hides even under pressure from the opposition. 

Previously of Portuguese outfit Benfica, Enzo’s long and short pass ability has always been a weapon but since the start of last season, goal scoring is fast becoming an additional weapon in the Argentine’s armory.

Arriving late into the box when the wingers have the ball wide has become a regular feature of Fernandez’s game this season, contributing to his goal tally of 8 league goals and assists (4 each). 

Against Southampton, Enzo’s 6 chances were a game high and his 4/5 completed long passes further proved his passing strength from the heart of midfield. 

Ever evolving his game as it is, Fernandez won 5 of 5 ground duels he contested against the Saints at the Bridge last night. 

With Lavia’s injury woes unending, Enzo’s importance to this team cannot be overstated as the season dives into its most crucial period with every match being of huge significance into shaping the rest of the season and placements of positions.
