After confirming the season-long loan of former Atletico Madrid striker, Radamel Falcao, Chelsea have announced that their new striker will wear the number 9 jersey during his stay.
Recall that the number 9 jersey was also worn by Fernando Torres, who was unable to fulfil his potential after his big money move from Liverpool to the Blues seasons ago. However, fans of the English club will be hoping that the Monaco and Colombian striker is able to impress them next season.
Falcao spent the whole of last season on loan to United, but fell short of the club’s expectations as he only managed to score a couple of goals. Perhaps, his decline in form made a lot of Chelsea fans to become a little sceptical when reports started linking him with a move to Stanford Bridge.
Despite failing to impress Louis van Gaal and the rest of the United crew, the Colombian international remains one of the most amazing strikers in the world; no wonder Jose Mourinho didn’t hesitate to sign him on loan. On his good day, the former Atletico striker could singlehandedly wreck havoc on any defence; and the Blues can only hope that the Falcao that turns up in Stanford Bridge is the one that struck fear and panic in the minds of defenders and goalkeepers in the La Liga.
Who knows, the Blues might just be lucky to get the best out of him, which could also lead to an extension of his loan deal, or perhaps, a deal to make his stay permanent.
