Our legendary all time top scorer Frank Lampard is set to make another history as the midfielder is set to join an Exclusive group of players who have donned the England jersey for 100 times and more. Super Frank keeps breaking records and records every passing year and he doesn’t seem to stop at the age of 35 as he is still incredibly one of the reliable players in the Three lions squad.
It will be on the pitch in Kiev’s magnificent Olympic Stadium, when the Chelsea midfielder wins his 100th cap against Ukraine. Lampard played his 99th cap on Friday as England beat Moldova 4-0 in a WCQ game ahead next summer’s 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Acknowledging the greatness of his England team mate, Skipper Steven Gerrard said the 100th cap is well deserved for a true professional as Frank Lampard.
‘No one deserves it more,’ said the England captain. ‘He has been tremendous for club and country — a top player. Hopefully I’m on the pitch when he does get that 100th cap to share the moment with him, because I’ve been with him all the way through and he’s a good friend of mine. I can’t wait for him to get it.’
‘I thought he was actually going to unload the shot himself but he was unselfish and laid me on, so it was nice to get on the scoresheet,’ said Gerrard. ‘He was too good for LA Galaxy, in my opinion. Of course, he made the right choice [to stay at Chelsea]. You’ve seen his form for Chelsea at the back end of last season.
‘For me, he still has a lot to offer in the Premier League — and certainly for England — so it would have been sad if he had moved away. He’s a great player. A lot of people talk about me and Frank being in the same team and we enjoy playing together.
‘I’ll leave that debate down to you guys — we’ve had tons of criticism over playing together — but it’s always nice to win and be in the same team.’
‘He’s a big player and a very important one. You just have to look at his record. Anyone who gets near that 100-cap mark is special. He deserves all the accolades he gets. He has been a top player for club and country for a very long time.’
