Frank Lampard has confirmed that Edouard Mendy will not be starting in the goalkeeper position for Chelsea against Brighton tomorrow afternoon.
The Senegalese goalkeeper has been out of action with a finger injury and even underwent surgery to repair the damage.
Mendy returned to training recently and there were suggestions from other Journalists and fans that Mendy could be given the nod tomorrow after a poor performance from Kepa Arrizabalaga in Madrid.
However, Lampard has confirmed that this will not be the case tomorrow :
“I don’t see any reason to do anything different at the moment. I think Kepa’s matured as a player and I think he’s been in good form. Edou [Mendy] has had a couple of injuries, he’s still carrying a small one at the moment. The position as you see it doesn’t change, I’m not judging anything on my previous time at the club, just on what’s in front of me now”
Furthermore, Lampard in the non live broadcasted section insisted that he is not judging players by his last spell, after rumours he fell out with Kepa Arrizabalaga behind the scenes.
Lampard feels no need to change things in the goalkeeping department at the moment.
Lampard also was asked again about Mason Mount as a player, having this to say :
“I’m not going to tell anyone what opinion they should have on football but if anyone thinks Mason Mount is not already a top-level player then I’m not sure what they’re seeing in my opinion”
There has been much speculation in the last few months about Mason’s future, but Lampard doubled down on his view and insisted that if you also asked Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter or Gareth Southgate, they would also say he is a great player :
“You can ask Thomas Tuchel, you can ask Gareth Southgate, you can ask Graham Potter – it’s clear that he’s a top player”
Lampard will be hoping to collect a much-needed three points tomorrow and we await to see if Mason will start the match or come off the bench.
