International Break, An Opportunity to Recharge

The last international break of the 2021/2022 season is here and players selected to represent their nations have all traveled far and wide with great joy in their hearts. With World-Cup qualification at stake, players have great determination to perform well for their respective nations and ensure they do not miss out on the mundial later this year in Qatar.

With Chelsea composed of international stars, it is expected that players jet out en-masse to defend their country’s flag.A total of 20 players contracted to Chelsea have since been called up and would represent their nation all over the world this window with some partaking in huge World-Cup qualifying games while others take part in friendly games.

Of Chelsea’s present playing squad, Italy’s Jorginho and Senegal’s Mendy have very tough high profile matches to contest and if everything turns out as expected, both players are expected to be on the pitch of play when their nations file out. Jorginho’s Italy take on North Macedonia in a semi-final play-off and should they win, they would face either of Portugal or Turkey for a slot at the 2022 World-Cup in Qatar. For Mendy, Senegal would look to add more salt to the injury of the Egyptians as they take on their recent foes, Mo Salah’s Egypt in a two legged-tie, first in Cairo Egypt on Friday then the return leg in Senegal’s newly launched 50,000 capacity stadium on Tuesday.

Chelsea’s number 10, Christian Pulisic is not left out of the big-time action this window as the winger takes on Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica all in one week to conclude the CONCACAF’s qualifying round and confirm the representatives from that region.

Other present playing staffs at Chelsea that would be in action in different capacities this window include; Kovaciç (Croatia), Mount (England), Kante (France), Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso (Spain).

With the season in its business-end, club coaches would be on the watch for their club’s key players and would sincerely hope that none of their players are victims of injuries or COVID this window.

After the international break, Chelsea’s busy schedule continues with premier league games against Brentford and Southampton either side of the crucial first-leg tie of the UCL match against Real Madrid coming up all in one week, Tuchel would be super glad to have a fully fit squad to pick from for the upcoming games.
