Jamie Gittens gives Enzo Maresca team selection headache with electric display against Wolves

Chelsea found their way into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, after a nail-biting 3-4 victory over Wolves in Wolverhampton.

Andrey Santos opened the scoring after a lovely finish in Jose Sa’s bottom right corner.

Tyrique George then continued his good form with a nice tap-in, while it seemed Estevao finished the game off for Chelsea with a beautiful chip after Santos caught the Wolves defence napping.

Wolves were able to pull the game back with three goals, but a late Jamie Gittens wonder goal was enough to get the Blues over the line.

The Englishman is someone who particularly shined in this match, and will probably now give Enzo Maresca food for thought ahead of Saturday.

Once again Gittens started in a game sandwiched between two Premier League games he’s been overlooked in, and once again he outperformed Alejandro Garnacho who has been playing in his place in the Premier League.

The first goal was made completely from Gittens’ interception, as he was able to easily pick up on a Wolves mistake and carefully lay it off to Santos for his first Chelsea goal.

The former Dortmund man found his second assist of the game not long after, as he drilled a cross from out wide, forming an easy tap in for George.

Then came the all important first Chelsea goal for Gittens, as he hit an absolute wonder strike to give his side some more breathing room in the match albeit for the length of a cup of coffee.

His overall game tonight was just so impressive and night and day from my concerns about him early on in his Chelsea career.

He was consistently taking on his man, taking more risks and being the exciting winger that fans expect him to be.

Two assists and a goal is a great return for any attacker in a match, particularly for one who has a big price tag to live up to.

Now the question starts being asked, when does he get his deserved Premier League start?

In his debut against Crystal Palace he struggled to impress, but since Garnacho has come in, he has responded to the competition incredibly well and he should probably be trusted more than the Argentinian in the left-wing position at this very moment.

This performance comes directly off his Champions League man of the match game against Ajax.

But judging from Maresca’s recent actions, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Garnacho start against Spurs which would be a shame for the Englishman especially when nobody can deny that on merit Gittens deserves that spot over him.

Gittens is more technically secure than Garnacho and seems to be more of a threat against a deep block.
