Chelsea drop more points in the Champions League, as the Blues fall to a 2-2 draw against the resilient Qarabag.
The two-time Champions League winners took the lead thanks to yet another Estevao goal.
However; they went behind after two goals from Leandro Andrade and Marko Jankovic.
Alejandro Garnacho got the equaliser, but in the end more low block frustration haunted Chelsea.
Inexperience has been the definition of Chelsea’s poor performances this season.
Once again, this was blindingly obvious with how Jorrel Hato played in Azerbaijan.
The Dutchman came into the club after being captain of Ajax, being a leader for a major club gave hope to Chelsea fans that unlike a lot of the club’s raw signings, Hato would offer some leadership and authority in the defence straight away.
But that has far been the case, his cameos have been decent for the most part but you do very much get the impression he needs more time to grow.
Today, started alongside Tosin Adarabioyo in the centre-back partnership.
He made three mistakes in the first half. The first being a clumsy challenge on an attacker inside the box and was lucky not to get penalised for that.
The defending was poor overall for Qarabag’s first goal, and it was Hato who lost his man too easily.

He allowed Qarabag to get a shot off, which is the rebound the Andrade goal came from.
Then the third mistake was the handball, it could be seen as harsh considering how quick the ball came at his hands.
Unfortunately, you can’t leave your hands waving around like that when you’re defending a cross, especially considering how the handball rule is in Football nowadays.
His second half performance was fine, but again you could see his nervousness and inexperience in certain moments.
There were multiple times that Tosin had to hold his hand when defending the Azerbaijan side’s dangerous counter attacks.
Once again, this performance proves Chelsea’s lack of depth at the centre back position will be costly for the club’s chances of winning a major trophy this season
There is only so much Maresca can do, he’s not a miracle worker and that’s showing with the lack of reliable resources he has in defence.
Wolves are next, and no manager or not, this is a side which have caused our defence problems this season already, Hato might be looking at the bench for this one.
