Reports are coming in the British media that Chelsea are looking to snatch Schalke sensation Julian Draxler from Arsenal in a player plus cash deal. Reports suggest that a Kevin De Bruyne plus Cash swap for Draxler, who has a buyout clause of £40 million maybe on the cards. De Bruyne has been out of favor at Chelsea and might be looking for a January exit in hunt for first team football to boost his chances of representing Belgium in the 2014 WC.
Draxler is reportedly not happy at Schalke as he is deployed on the wings instead of his favored No.10 position. Draxler is interested in a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs and has stated his desire to play at Chelsea.
“I’m telling you honestly that my dream is to play for one of the big clubs at some point. If you want to achieve the big goals, which every world class player has, you have to play at the biggest clubs. These are Real, Barca, [Manchester] United, Arsenal and Chelsea.”
Draxler is desperate to play in the no.10 role as he told Kicker:
“I have now resigned myself to the fact that I am not welcome in the number 10 position here at Schalke. I am still convinced to be as dangerous just outside the centre. Even though I perhaps am the only one who thinks this.”
Considering the amount of options Chelsea has got in the no.10 role the rumor comes out as a bit of a surprise with the likes of Juan Mata struggling to get into the side ahead of Oscar, Draxler surely will have to face stiff competition to get into the team.
It would be a great deal for Schalke though with De Bruyne already spending last season on loan in the Bungesliga and scoring ten goals and making nine assists at Werder Bremen.
It would be sad to see Kevin go considering the potential he has got, also where would Draxler fit in the already very competitive attacking midfield.
