Key talking points from Graham Potter‘s press conference ahead of Chelsea vs Wolves

Graham Potter held his usual press conference ahead of a Matchday today at Cobham. Here’s some of the key talking points from it.

Fofana Injury not as bad as first feared, Potter also talks about Kante’s injury troubles :

Fofana went down with a knee injury against AC Milan after a class with Rafael Leao with journalists later revealing he left the stadium on crutches and a knee brace, Chelsea fans feared the worst but after a scan, Chelsea can be relieved it is not as bad as first feared.

“Wesley’s knee, not as bad as we thought. A few weeks, I think. A possibility [to play before World Cup], depending on rehab

“Kante is making good progress but not yet available for the weekend”

“There’s nothing we can do, the injury happened. We have to make sure when he’s back, he’s back for good, and strong. It’s something we have to deal with”

“I don’t want to take a risk of the welfare of players. I want to make sure the player is safe, ready, and ready to play consistently over a period of time”

Potter outlines importance of tactical versatility in this busy fixture period :

Graham Potter is known for being tactically versatile with Chelsea not having a set formation since his arrival and he outlined that again today in the press conference.

“You always consider the opponent and players we have. Sometimes that can change the way you approach games. It’s also good to have a couple of options. It’s an intense period to have some options

Diego Costa return is welcomed :

Diego Costa is one of the best Chelsea strikers the club has seen, so it’s natural that fans are looking forward to his return this weekend as he battles out his old side with Wolves.

“We have a lot of respect for what he has achieved. He will come ready to play. Everybody knows at the club how good he’s been. He’s one of lots of talented players at Wolves that can hurt you, so we have to be ready.”

“I’m not sure, I hope so [good reception]. Always when players achieve something at the club, you hope so. But that’s not for me to decide.

Potter reveals Chalobah has been training well despite the transfer rumours :

Within the media in the last few weeks and months Chelsea centre back Trevoh Chalobah has been linked with several loan moves away in order to get regular gametime and you can’t really blame him, however with the injury of Wesley Fofana, you’d expect Chalobah to now step up and become a regular at the RCB Position and Graham Potter shared a few words on him.

“Really pleased with Trev, Epitomises the group, ready to come in and help. Training level has been high, so a reward of that behaviour.”
