Lampard fighting for a World Cup place and new Chelsea contract

Lampard England

Chelsea and England legend Frank Lampard has said his place in the 23-man squad traveling to Rio next summer for the World Cup is not guaranteed. The 35 year old admitted he is fighting hard to earn his place in the national team and make the squad traveling for to Brazil. He is in a dogfight for his place in England’s World Cup squad as he prepares to receive his golden cap at Wembley.

Lampard said: ‘I’m not silly — especially when you see the young players coming into the squad and pushing me. No matter what age you are, you have to react. You have to worry about yourself and perform as well as you can.’

Lampard, 35, will be honored by World Cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst and his dad Frank in a presentation before the match against Chile on Friday evening. The midfielder will captain his country against Sampaoli’s side but admits there are no guarantees he will be in Roy Hodgson’s 23-man World Cup squad next summer.

‘If I walked around thinking my 103 caps would get me on the plane, I’d probably be on the beach because that means you’re taking things for granted. I’m very determined. He’s always said it doesn’t matter if you’re 17 or 35 going on 36, he’ll not look at you any differently. The rest is up to me.’

But, Super Frank also admits he is trying to impress Jose Mourinho and the Chelsea board to earn a new contract come at the end of this season like he did in the previous. It is still in every fans mind how his incredible run of form during the closing stages of the season earned Lampard a new contract right after breaking Bobby Tambling’s record of 202 goals and surpass the legend in the 2-1 away win at Aston Villa that was also crucial for our Champions League qualification this term.

His £150,000-a-week deal at Stamford Bridge is up at the end of the season and Lampard said: ‘I feel good. I want to play for a few more years and I’d love to do that at Chelsea for as long as they want me and for as long as I feel I’m contributing there.

‘There’s a long season still to go, we’re not even at Christmas yet, but I hope to keep performing. If the time came when Chelsea said “thanks very much for your service”, I’d have to look at that one.’

Lampard will earn his 104th cap and at the process earn his commemoration from the FA as did previous 100 capers Ashley Cole and Steven Gerrard during the past year. Comment your reaction on how Super Frank will get to the Three lions squad at the World Cup in Brazil and also earn a new contract at Chelsea. Thanks for reading and follow on twitter (FahmiCFC).

  2. He’s a legend quiet alright, I would luv to see him end his career with cfc..but should he given a new contract, Mourinho will keep using him thereby hindering our younger players chances. So I’ll say his contract shouldn’t be renewed…
