Lewis Hall certainly has a bright future but should he remain at Chelsea or go out on loan?
Academy graduate Lewis Hall started back-to-back games in the Premier League for just the second time in his young premier league career against Manchester City this afternoon.
Playing as a Left wing back today in Frank’s 5-4-1 formation, Hall had the task of picking up Mahrez when Chelsea were out of possession and his brilliant performance at wingback meant Mahrez had little to no impact as he fully nullified the Algerian’s threat.
Hall’s solid defensive showing saw the 18-year-old win the most duels in the match with 6, most tackles (4) and 4 recoveries.
In possession, Hall’s constant runs down the left flank gave Chelsea viable options as Azpi who played on the right flank couldn’t make up enough grounds to join the attack.
His calmness and quality on the ball saw Hall create the most chances in the game with 2, complete 2/3 crosses with one particular cross finding Gallagher who should’ve converted at the back-post.
Despite barely playing for the first team this season, Lewis Hall’s confident showings whenever he gets the chance to play for the first team means he should be given the chance to blossom come next season with other LB/LWB options (Cucurella and Chilwell) failing to impress beyond doubts this season.
A loan move could be viable for more game time, and with Ian Maatsen coming back it could potentially shift Hall into the midfield options (his natural position) but in any case, Chelsea have a very good young talent on their hands and Mauricio Pochettino would be wise to not dish him to the side.
An overall decent season for Hall despite limited first-team opportunities gets the academy graduate a season rating of 7/10.
