Patrick Bamford has won a call-up to the England U21 team on the back of his scintillating form for loan club MK Dons.
The 20-year old striker, who is on a six-month loan with the League One club from Chelsea, has been called up by Gareth Southgate for Tuesday’s European U21 qualifier against San Marino in Shrewsbury.
Bamford replaces West Bromwich Albion young gun Saido Berahino who is suspended after he was booked during Thursday’s 3-0 win over Finland in which he netted two goals. Bamford has scored a total of 12 goals for the Dons this season including 10 in the league for the 10th-placed third tier club.
Patrick van Aanholt has been called up to the Holland squad by manager Louis van Gaal.
The 23-year old defender, who is on loan at Vitesse Arnhem from Chelsea, has been called in for Tuesday’s friendly with Colombia. Van Aanholt is in his first Oranje squad and could get the chance to make his international debut following injuries to Bruno Martins Indi and Jetro Willems.
