Chelsea will be buoyed by a trio of young players who have gained plenty of experience whilst out on loan last season.
They are the sentiments of Jose Mourinho who is looking forward to having Romelu Lukaku, Kevin de Bruyne and Tomas Kalas at his disposal for the 2013/14 campaign.
“They are good players with a very good value in the market and we have these players this season for free, after an investment that the club did before,” Mourinho told the club’s official website.
Belgian striker Lukaku starred on loan with West Bromwich Albion, winger de Bruyne impressed in Germany with Werder Bremen and Czech centre-half Kalas was a regular with Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem.
Lukaku cost £18million from Anderlecht in 2011, when the Belgium international striker was clearly not ready for the Chelsea first team. He developed well on loan at West Brom, although this will not deter Mourinho from trying to sign another striker.
His fellow Belgian De Bruyne, signed for £7m from Genk in January 2012, performed well in the Bundesliga after moving from the wing to a more central role and and Czech defender Kalas, who arrived in a deal worth up to £5m from Sigma Olomuc three years ago, has spent the last two years at Vitesse, playing at centre-half and right-back.
