According to The Telegraph, Romelu Lukaku is hoping to force through a return to Inter Milan from Chelsea this summer.
Senior sources at both clubs are convinced the striker wants to quit Stamford Bridge after a disappointing season and return to Italy.
Following the broadcast of the now infamous interview with Sky Italia at the end of December, in which Lukaku stated he was “not happy” at Chelsea and talked up the prospect of one day returning to Inter, it is understood that he initially resolved to stay and make a success of the club record £97.5million move.
Lukaku would like Chelsea to agree a deal with Inter Milan, but it’s understood that Inter Milan’s current priority is to pursue Paulo Dybala who’s leaving Juventus on a free.
Lukaku, who cost Chelsea £97.5m, would go down as one of Chelsea’s worst ever signings. Chelsea would demand a £20m loan fee and a option to buy.
The 29-year-old Belgian striker has four years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge but is keen to end his time with the club to re-sign for Inter, who he left to join Chelsea in August.
Lukaku was asked about his future ahead of Belgium’s Nations League clash with Holland on Friday.
But he remained tight-lipped, telling reporters that he “can’t talk about the future”.
