Luk-ing up: Romelu Lukaku has ambitions to play in the Champions League from next season

Romelu Lukaku has said that he wants to play in the Champions league starting from next season. The Belgian striker claims that only Europe’s top competition can satisfy his evolution at the young age of 21. He even mentioned how he wants to succeed and how he plans to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney since they were both playing Champions league football by the time they were his age.

Currently nursing an ankle injury in Belgium, the Belgian striker is set to start for his country at this summer’s world cup in Brazil. Here are the quotes from his interview per Daily Mail….

‘It’s time for me to play Champions League, and that’s what I want,’ he told Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws. ‘When I turn 21, I’ll have been a professional for five years, I need this in my evolution.

‘Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney were already in the Champions League when they were 23 or 24. I don’t want to play my first games in the Champions League when I’m 23, I want it now. I have to show now that I’m ready.

This shows his ambitions to succeed at the highest level and Jose Mourinho will surely aid his development into following in the footsteps of Didier Drogba if he listens to him and follow the orders of the Special one. Not a lot of players are lucky to go to a world cup at this young age playing on-loan for Everton, but Lukaku is much ambitious that he wants even more bigger stage than the premier league.

The answer we will be looking for though will be come the end of the season whether next year’s champions league football will be at Stamford Bridge or elsewhere permanently. The Belgian front man added….

‘I’m still young but I’ve no time to waste. The only player who can make a better player of me, is me. I want to be successful, an ambition I share with Vincent Kompany and Eden Hazard.’

‘I want to be a top player and I also think I can shout that out. I’ve scored a lot of goals, but I haven’t won many titles or cups yet. I want to win something.’

‘I still have two years on my contract in Chelsea and I know they’re tracking my evolution. In the end, it’s up to the manager to decide.’

It will be an answer we are going to find out in the summer when Jose Mourinho’s promised star striker signing for the ‘next possible 10 years'(though not exactly) arrives at Stamford Bridge.

    • Yes you are right. I like player like Matic who are so humble, we don’t need an arrogant who thinks he the best player. He will be sold for sure because Mou doesn’t want arrogant
