MATCH SUMMARY:
A match everyone expected to go the either way went the neither way. Chelsea FC were held to a 1 – 1 draw at Stamford bridge when they played their first group stage match of the Uefa Champions League against Schalke 04. Didier Drogba who won us the UCL in 2012 Led the team upfront but didn’t perform to expectations.
Early goal from Cesc Fabregas saw Chelsea through the first-half but wasn’t enough to defeat the German side. Chelsea’s performance in the first-half and early second-half was scintillating before FC Schalke took control of possession. Later, a great counter-attack was played alongside the Dutch international Klaas-Jan Hunterlaar which saw the ball after an hour in the game.
FIRST HALF:
• The first opportunity came on the 8minutes when Drogba cross reached Ramires. He tried to shoot but didn’t connect well with the ball.
• 2 minutes later Cesc Fabregas scored his first goal for Chelsea. Hazard supplied the pass and Fabregas did the rest by placing the ball at the back of the net. The home team were ahead with just ten minutes played
• A superb delivery by Filipe Luis finds Drogba but the Ivorian’s header was straight at Fahrmann in the Schalke goal.
• Another great delivery came in from Filipe Luis, this time Ivanovic heads over the bar. A good chance also came for Fabregas to double his goal but the midfielder blasts the ball over the bar.
• Schalke came on 39th minute with a possibility through Boateng but Courtois made a good save.
• In the 45th minute Draxler found his way skilfully through our defenders, fortunately the shot was dragged wide the goal post.
SECOND HALF:
• Great ball by Fabregas releases Hazard, who exchanges passes with Drogba before bending one over the bar.
• Boateng, as he did before the break, tried his luck from distance, but once again Courtois was equal to it.
• Drogba went close, raced on to Hazard’s flighted ball and rolling his effort some inches past the far post.
• Over one hour gone as Fabregas was pushed off the ball Draxler broke; he slipped in Huntelaar and the striker cut inside and dispatched his strike.
• Almost a stunning entrance by Remy as his strike is headed off the line.
• A brilliant run by Remy, whose cross evades everybody. Moments later Hazard volleys over the bar from a great position.
• A stunning ball by Fabregas over the top, Hazard gets on the end of it but Fahrmann somehow manages to claw it away.
• Ivanovic and Terry were not far away with headers in the dying minutes.
And the Referee Signalled the End of the match.

That was not easy to take especially for king Drogba who lost balls every time…

Z game thought Mour what to do next… Not utlizing z chances thought us more than enough by Torres for z past 3 yrs… Currently z aged Drogaba should not be played as a lone striker… Mour hs to accept z comment…

Lessons we learnt from this frustrated match: 1. is Courtois is better than Cech? He lost at least one goal in each match he played. 2. Our CB are too slow. We salute to Terry on his years of contribution but he is too old. We have to give chance to Zouma or move Ivan to play at CB. If Zouma is not ready, we have to sign Varane in Jan. 3. Why play Drogba as start? He will give us the best if he play in the last 20 min but not start. Sure Costa needs a rest. But why not we play Remy as start. He is fast and have great skill on finishing goals.
I am okay with drogba’s performance yesterday because that’s his first start and he hasn’t got enough play time since he returned to the bridge.
D performance was ok. Look at it this way, if drogba dint start against shalke, he wld havve started against bolton in the league cup. And quite frankly, I wld rather drogba starts in the champ league cos at least whatever the outcome, it can be overturned in subsequent matches unlike in the capital one cup where if we lose then we are out. Its the same with eto last season. When he first started he was rusty, but as the season went on he became more prolific. Drogba wld have to start some matches and as far I’m concerned, this is the best match to start as there are long term consequences to us even if we had lost. That aside, hazard is awesome plus fab aint bad either. Our defence needs to be sorted out. Zouma has to SLOWLY integrated into the first team ahead of terry.

How can Mourinho start Drogba ahead of Remy. Come on this bests my understanding. Drogba is not the same like before Mourinho. I blame Mourinho for loosing that two point you know. Some of his decisions were against went against in the evening though we all know he is one of the best.

mourinho is to be blamed for the game,starting drugba that just came from injury as lone striker when Remy is available. to my own point of view mourinho underrated Schalke. that is mourinho for us he know how we will bounce back. don’t let us worry much blue will fly!
At last my team is playing the kind of football that suits the players we have.
Willian was so quick and he is more intense than Oscar so far this season. Eden would be world best if he polish his finishing.
Terry’s starting berth is up- We should push Ivanovic to Centre to pair Cahill with Azpi and Filipe taking up their natural positions. Filipe is a good crosser.
I still believe that Matic rushes into challenges faster than he shd. Ramires, Pls learn hw to pass, Cesc is very creative but his defensive game is weak like dt Mou is playing to his strength. Mikel still v a lot to offer us in terms of defensive cover and better ball retention.
Drog the beast still has his great link up play- He needs more match fitness- he hasn’t fully understood Hazard yet. If we play Didier we shd try more crosses than we did. Mou don’t underrate UCL opponents anymore. Great match lads
Mou has been doing a good job so far since the beginning of the season but starting Drog against Schalke wasn’t the best idea especially when this guy is coming back from injury.
Apart from that,we shouldn’t expect much from him.
Yea we’re scoring goals and our defence is also leaking goals as well.Felipe Luiz did a good job against Schalke both defensively and offensively.
