Chelsea Football Club will take on Sport Club Corinthians Paulista in the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup Final. Both clubs had an automatic spot in the semi-finals of the tournament, and both beat their opposition. Corinthians held on to beat the Egyptian side Al-Ahly 1-0. The next day, Chelsea beat the Mexican side Monterrey 3-1. Rafael Benitez seems confident ahead of the match and certainly is no stranger to the CWC final : losing to Sao Paulo in 2005 (1-0) and beating TP Mazembe in 2010 (3-0). This could be his chance to make 2 trophies in a row in the CWC or 2 losses in a row to Brazilian opposition in the CWC.
Corinthians won the Copa Libertadores under the guidance of the Brazilian League’s longest reigning coach, Tite. His key players are Ânderson Polga (defender), two forwards – 27 year-old Argentina international Juan Manuel Martínez and Peru national team captain Paolo Guerrero. His defensive line is very strong, and he will certainly look to tactics and discipline as the key to the Brazilian side’s shock victory over the 2012 UEFA Champions League Champions.
For Chelsea, it will be our first finals appearance in our first tournament appearance. This is our chance to make history and Benitez’s chance to keep his job and relax some of the pressure off of his shoulders. Petr Cech is expected to captain Chelsea in the final, although it is said that Frank Lampard might have a rare start and wear the armband. The match against Corinthians will help him to fix Chelsea’s game, improve the connections between the players and build up the confidence of the team in what would be his 2nd CWC title in 2 years.
Probable Line-Up:
Corinthians (4-2-3-1): Cassio; Alessandro, Chicao, Paolo Andre, Fabio Santos; Paulinho, Ralf, Douglas, Emerson, Danilo; Guerrero
Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Cech; Ivanovic, David Luiz, Cahill, A.Cole; Mikel, Ramires, Mata, Oscar, Hazard; Torres
Key Stats :
- Rafael Benitez is 0-1 against Brazilian opposition in the CWC and is 1-1 in the Final of the CWC.
- If Chelsea beat Corinthians in the final, we would be the 2nd English team to ever win the CWC.
- Shall we win, we would be the 6th UEFA representative in a row to lift the trophy.

What I’ve done is put a camera on the trpoid in our bedroom aimed at a small table on our deck with some nuts and seeds on it and when I catch a glimpse of a chickadee, or junco or cardinal I’ve been snapping some pictures..I haven’t got a blue jay yet Diane
