Match Report: Aston Villa 1-0 Chelsea

Chelsea FC fans have been left deflated after a shocking performance from the referee Chris Foy which gave Aston Villa a valuable victory. Foy, sent Willian and Ramires off and he also dismissed Mourinho to the stands. Both bookings were extremely harsh. A neat finish from Fabian Delph ensured the three points for Paul Lambert’s side.

The first chance of the game fell to Willian in the thirteenth minute, Oscar’s cross couldn’t find Fernando Torres. Willian recieved the ball but his shot rattled the side netting.

The first yellow card of the game was handed to Willian who fouled Al Ahmadi, after his header reached the Villa player.

After a poor first opening 40 minutes the game was sparked into life with a disallowed goal. Willian’s cross which was met by Terry reached Nemanja Matic. The Serbian controlled the ball and squeezed it past Guzan and into the Villa goal. Chris Foy awarded the goal, however he backtracked on his original decision and deemed that the ball struck Matic’s hand.

Following a missed opportunity by Chelsea Aston Villa broke on the counter through Weimann, he pulled the ball back to Benteke who’s curling effort was agonizingly wide.

Moments later came the moment that doomed Chelsea and handed an advantage to Aston Villa. Chelsea’s Brazilian winger Willian, he was tracking Delph and slightly nudged him. Yes it was a foul however it was no way near a yellow card offence. Chris Foy’s poor officiating left the Blues in despair.

On the 82nd minute Aston Villa were ahead. Marc Albrighton played a wonderful cross to Delph who fantastically flicked the ball past the reach of Cech.

Christian Benteke almost doubled Villa’s lead with only a minute of normal time left. The Belgian hit a thunderous strike which was beaten away well by Petr Cech.

Villa were handed another Chance moments later. Delph was completely fred on the left but Cech managed to divert his effort on to the crossbar.

Yet another controversial moment in the game arose in the last minute of injury time. Ramires appeard to jump in on Ahmadi after he was dispossessed. Mourinho walked onto the pitch to contest the decision but he was also dismissed by Chris Foy.
