Match Report: Chelsea 2-0 Galatasaray

article-2583790-1C655A0200000578-818_964x390Goals from Samuel Eto’o and Gary Cahill saw Chelsea to a comfortable 2-0 win over Galatasaray in their second leg Last 16 UEFA Champions League match at Stamdford Bridge on Tuesday night.

Chelsea moved onto the quarterfinals of the competition after winning the two legged tie 3-1 on aggregate.

Chelsea came out of the blocks firing and opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute when Oscar slipped Samuel Eto’o through on goal, and the Cameroonian made no mistake with a clinical finish from 12-yards out, 1-0 (2-1 on aggregate).

The Blues created their next chance on goal in the 21st minute after a free-flowing passing movement concluded with Oscar squaring the ball between the legs of Eden Hazard for Frank Lampard, but he poked his shot over from 12-yards out.

Ten minutes later Lampard picked out John Terry with a delightful free-kick into the box, but his header from ten-yards out skimmed the wrong side of the crossbar.

In the 41st minute Chelsea confirmed their dominance in the game when Gary Cahill doubled their lead.

Terry met a corner-kick with a ferocious header which was initially saved by the keeper, but Cahill was quickest to react as he toe-poked the ball home from close range, 2-0 (3-1 on aggregate).

The second 45 saw Chelsea continue to dictate terms, but heir finishing lacked something to be desired as they squandered numerous chances in front of goal.

In the 50th minute Lampard played Willian into space, but his shot from the edge of the box was well-saved by the keeper.

The Blues controlled the ball possession, but only created their next decent opening in the 83rd minute when a great acrobatic save from the Galatasaray keeper denied Hazard from 16-yards out.

Fernando Torres was also denied form close range in the 88th minute after being put through on goal by Hazard.

The match ended 2-0 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate as Chelsea marched onto the quarterfinals of Europe’s biggest cup competition.

  1. Fatastic result! We hv a chance to win CL this season b/c this season team is better than 2010 team won CL. I wann z next match be with Olyompiacos and then with Barca and z 2010 final wl be repeated in z final! JOSE Vs GARDIOLA …. Good chance to Blue….

  2. Martin, Norway.

Strong performance, good play. Everybody played well.

  3. Eto’o first goal show how our midfielders aren’t that selfish as many keep saying. When Torres is playing our midfielders can find him because of his poor positioning. I’m really happy for Eto’o…he is not the same as he was in Barca and Inter days but still he show us how unfortunate we have been having Torres as our main man. From now I wish see Eto’o in our every starting XI and Ba as a sub.

  4. Lack of positioning, finishing, accuracy cost the fall of Torres but good result oo

  5. i have had made love for torres but etoo is all what we have and torres is nowhere close to the oldman. Etoo can link up, hold up, create space and shoot. He makes hazard play e way he want… Hazards iz more deadly if etoo is in the field of play… Any1 who stil believe torres have a role to play at chelsea need a doctor… He must leave with his colosus salary… Hate it or love it torres lost us at villa park and couldnt beat musrela one on one at close range……. The whole team was solid against gala…. Oscar and willian are to slow to make some decisive passes……

  6. Torres must go, he position himself for a guf pass, and som people keep blamin the midfielders, am, Eve., tired, of, supporting him wether u hate it or love he has nothin again to offer, he’s I been cheered nd backed by abramovic himself nd the fans, thou he scored some important goals for us he hasn’t still proven to be the striker we all wanted which made us spent 50k on him,

  7. This is what we expect from our darling team.cfc players made gala team 2 look bad.match after match,we wil match 2 the finals & hopfuly win the ucl title dis time wit our man jose.ktbffh.

  8. Good performance from the blues and eto was particularly impressive. Next up Arsenal. I really think eto makes hazard better. If yu watch closely. Lampard had a good game as well. I wld love to see how we wld line up against arsenal. I wld acttually want us to face a top team. Its good experience. We were unfortunate to draw against bayern in the super cup. This chelsea team is good against top teams.

  9. Hmmm! Everyone is throwing praise. That’s good, let us cherish the moment but should be carried away yet! We should be critical about our performance. For me, Gala fans were more threatening than their players. How many observed Ramires’ display yesterday, it was bad! If we had met a better organized team he could have been sent off again. Hazard I repeat should study Ronald and Messi videos: He should score goals…else he will only be a world best for Chelsea fans alone! Imagine, he has been nominated for EPL player of the month how many times and never won one! It’s disheartening. He played well yesterday and most importantly he had a direct shot on goal! It’s not yet Uhuru for us, but a game at a time and we will get there! KTBFFH!!!

  10. Martin, Norway.

Even the holiday man, Eto’o was impressive.

  11. Durability and performance make these great for battling big ones.
A few hints include avoiding shops that use swimming pools to teach you in. You
want personal tuition for something as important as this, and you want your course to be really enjoyable.
