The football community just witnessed an absolutely brilliant game, with the most bizarre ending that has broken the hearts of many City fans. An awful mix up involving Nastasic and Hart let Fernando Torres to capitalise on the golden chance and fire the ball into the empty net. Torres’ first league goal of the season has placed Chelsea in a respectable second place in the Barcalys Premier League Table.
Chelsea started the much-anticipated match brilliantly with the blues looking lively early on. As early as the second minute the blues were nearly 1-0 up. A curling ball from Brazilian Ramires set up Gary Cahil on the volley. However the centre back’s blistering volley went inches over the bar.
Despite Chelsea’s promising start Manchester City found their stride and dominated the possession for about twenty minutes.
The twenty-fifth minute of the game sparked a moment of passion and recklessness with two yellow cards in the succession of two minutes. The first fell to Frank Lampard who challenged Yaya Toure from behind, despite getting the ball Howard Webb deemed that the tackle was worthy of a yellow card. Zabaleta received the second after fouling Belgian Eden Hazard.
On the twenty-seventh minute every Chelsea fan’s head fell into their palms after witnessing Torres miss considering his standards an easy opportunity. Yet again Ramires found his target, this time in the form of Torres who hit the ball over the bar only yards away from the goal.
Despite his personal disappointment of missing the chance Fernando Torres provided Chelsea with a moment of brilliance that handed Schurrle with the easiest of tap ins. The Spaniard bossed Gael Clichy on the right hand side beating him on sheer pace alone, he then played a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Schurrle who scored from only two yards out.
Torres’ confidence was high and he nearly doubled Chelsea’s advantage. The former Liverpool man drove forward from midfield taking on several defenders in his stride. As he arrived in the penalty area he cut inside and curled a beautiful shot towards the top left corner. However the bar denied what surely was going to be a wonder goal.
Sergio Aguero forced a smart save out of Petr Cech who was relatively quiet in the first half, due to Chelsea’s resolute defending. The Argentinian fired a fierce strike which was cleverly beaten away by Cech in the Chelsea goal. 1-1 HT
Four minutes into the second half Manchester City were level. Nasri’s pass found Aguero who unleashed a powerful strike at the static Cech who watched the ball fly into the back of the net. 1-1
City regained the confidence and attempted to test Cech. Javi Garcia was handed a free header which he could head in the direction of Cech’s hands.
Half way through the second half Cech almost justified his earlier mistake with an unbelievable save. David Silva smashed the ball hard and low across his body, however Cech’s fantastic reaction save denied Silva.
Jose Mourinho decided to introduce a double change with John Obi Mikel and Willian replacing Lampard and Andre Schurrle respectively.
There came a quiet period in the game towards the end when neither side could break through each other’s defence. The last ten minutes produced a thrilling close to the game. Eto’o, Navas and Negredo came on in a last ditch attempt to win the game for both sides.
Then in a frantic 30 seconds Fernando Torres on one of his best Chelsea games ensured that Chelsea would receive up a vital three points. A horrible mistake with a lack of communication between Hart and Nastasic, let Torres in who hit the ball into the empty net. FT 2-1

My day was made
Ecstatic! we have surely built confidence esp from big games such as this. kudos to an even better Torres to his Liverpool days. Chelsea has transformed the lads attacking orientation.
But there are lots of corrections to be made by our admirable manager. Lamps candle is slowly burning out. And I am of the opinion that the legend should feature in fewer and less sensitive games unlike this one. It provably needed a stable pivot in Mikel alongside Ramires to bring confidence in ball possession and attack when we retain much of the ball. we could see how rock solid our defensive line provided, otherwise City’s 20mins ball possession and constant attack would have shredded us earlier on. Mou in future will have to ignore his personal contract with Lampard in more physically minded games like today and go for better holding roles hopefully in future. CFC for life.
Great article as usual. Well played Chelsea. I was ecstatic and impressed with our team’s winning mentality. We fought fiercely till the end. One of the good and entertaining games i have watched this season i must admit. Torres is on fire no doubt with such a man of the match performance. Indeed am very excited.
Torres shot hit the top right post not top left.
Just saying
