Match Report: Chelsea 4-0 Brentford

Celebrating their 3rd win in a row!
Celebrating their 3rd win in a row!

After an abysmal first half performance Chelsea finally managed to break Brentford’s resolute defence to run out as comfortable winners. Mata gave the blues the lead with a stunning twenty yard strike in the 54th minute. Fourteen minutes later Oscar doubled our advantage with a cheeky backheel. It was clear to see that Brentford’s confidence had disappeared and on the 74th minute super Frankie Lampard sealed the game with his 199th Chelsea Goal, only three off the all time leading goalscorer Bobby Tambling. There was still time for Captain John Terry to put his name among the goal scorers with a good header. 4-0 sounds doesn’t reflect Chelsea’s overall performance!

It really was a nervy opening 15 minutes with the only chance falling to Branislav Ivanovic. The Serbian managed to clip the ball to the far post from the corner but the ball sailed over the head of Demba Ba and the chance was gone.

Brentford were trying to settle into their rhythm and Adam Foreshaw was showing promising signs for the Bees. He managed to create a chance out of nothing as he turned away from Luiz and flashed a shot at goal which flew just wide of the post.

Chelsea really needed to turn up the heat and an easy opportunity fell Lampard’s way. He really was out of character when he received the cutback from Moses. Normally we would see him striking the back of the net but he scuffed his shot as the ball fell out of his grasp.

Couple of minute’s later another chance came his way. Following good work from Ivanovic out on the right-wing the Serbian managed to float a ball into the box. As the ball approached Frank it looked certain that he would fire us into the lead, however his left foot slipped and he couldn’t quite hit the ball with the contact that every fan expected him to.

There was a very controversial moment before half-time . Luiz upended Foreshaw and the ref blew his whistle, however if he would have waited another second to make his decision and realised Brentford had a chance the blues would have headed into the second half one goal down.

As the half dragged on the performance was getting much worse. Our passing was awful and it really lacked accuracy, the defence was nervy and it really was a half to forget. It was one of the worst first half performances of the season and we didn’t even manage to threaten Brentford’s well organised defence.

Chelsea really started the half with more intensity and it was clear to see that Rafa had giving them a piece of his mind! I’m sure he was satisfied when Mata sensationally put us into the lead. He picked up the ball just outside the box and fired an outstanding shot into the bottom right corner of the net. 1-0 Chelsea.

Fourteen minutes later it was two. Ivanovic once again threatened down the right hand side and managed to fire a ball into the box. In very cheeky style Oscar managed to squeeze his back heel past the goalkeeper to double our advantage.

It was clear to see that Brentford’s confidence had suffered a major setback and Chelsea anticipated more goals.

On the 74th minute Lampard redeemed his early misses with a well-worked goal. Mata attacked down the left-wing and chipped a perfectly weighted ball to Lampard and he was on hand to fire home! Goal 199 for Lampard he’s only four away from being Chelsea’s all time top goalscorer.

The flood gates didn’t close there, oh no! There was still time for Captain,Leader,Legend JT to grab a fourth on his return. He showed that even defenders are composed in front of goal as he scored with a clinical header.

Without a doubt the second-half was a huge improvement considering the terrible first-half performance. You could say Brentford deserved more but Chelsea showed you can still win convincingly even with an average performance!

I hope you all enjoyed the game! Let me know your thoughts. KTBFFH!
