Match Report: Chelsea 5-1 Leeds

In the end it was a case of boys vs. men. Chelsea outclassed bitter rivals Leeds United in the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup, giving Chelsea a much-needed victory and they will now be firm favourites to win the trophy.

First half

The first half was largely devoid of chances from either sides. Chelsea had a fair share of the ball but couldn’t create any clear-cut chances. Moses won a corner early in the match from a decent shot. Chelsea won a free-kick but made nothing from it. Another shot from Moses later on was saved. However, Leeds unexpectedly took the lead with 37 mins played. Luiz ventured forward and lost the ball and Leeds were quick to break. Becchio finished off the move. The last chance of the half fell to Lampard from a free-kick, but it was saved. 1-0 to Leeds in the 1st half.

Second half

The second half was goals galore for Chelsea. Chelsea equalized through Mata when the half began, his low shot doing enough to beat Ashdown. Chelsea pressed, looking for the lead and eventually got it. Ivanovic headed in from a corner and it was 1-2 Chelsea. Barely a couple of minutes later and it was 1-3, Moses finding the back of the net with a well-hit shot from outside the box. Chelsea were in cruise control now, but not done scoring. 16 minutes after Moses scored, Luiz’s wonderful through ball picked out Hazard and the Belgian duly converted. Barely a couple of minutes later and Torres scored from a tap-in after Hazard teed him up after seeing Lampard’s initial shot saved. 1-5;  game, set and match.
